DEAREST, CONE . HISS • , A Westerifilaper publishes - a poem com• snencing— !!'_Dearest come - kiss me;" my lips are yet - Warm, - And my bosom - still pants from the clasp of _*thy.arm; _ The blood 'dances wildly through each throbbing-vein; - _But I droop,,,oh ! J droop for thy kisses again.". _ . _ To which a very "fresh'? young gentleman promptly replied— Jee-roo-sa-lern ! dearest, I dart like a fish; "My lips shall With kisses respond to thy , ' wish; 11l cheek not the blood-thrilling wild in each vein; Put, I'll stop thee from drooping for kisses • _ again. Then turn up thy bill, love, I'll pounce like a bird; And through vale and thro' forest the smack shall be heard, If you suffer for kisses, I'm thar "you may bet;" And I'll kiss `tee from morn till the sun shall be set. Come kiss thee! why, thunder ! I'm one of that kind. • I'm the chap of all others you're trying to find! So you needn't look farther—l'm in for a chance, Tho' the blcood should "cavort" pulses may dance. .130 bring on the fruits love—your kisses I mean, For I dream now of nothing but 'peaches and cream; I'm waiting, and panting, and praying till then; So come along dearest, as quick as you can. Death or Ole B. The Montreal Gazette reports the death of Ole Bull, the celebrated viollnist,at Quebec, •On the 10th instant. This distinguished 'musical genius was born at Bergen,rn Nor : way, Februp7 sth, 1810. His early pas ' sion for music was repressed by his father, • Who placed him, at the age of eighteen, at the University of Christina. While there he developed strong symptoms:of his must cal powers. In 1829 he went to Cassell to study with Spohr, but meeting a chilling ' reception, soon began the study of the law at Gottingen. This was not found con genial, and he returned to music, giving his first concert at Minden. Becoming in volved in a duel he was forced to leave for Paris, where for some time he led a misera ble existence, and even attempted suicide. By the patronage of a lady who took an interest in him, he was enabled to start anew and to make his appearance as a violinist; and during a very successful professional . tour of seven years' duration, through Bug land and theLlContinent, accumulated a handsome fortune, and returned to his native place with a Parisian wife. After 'remaining there for five years he came to " this country and was most enthusiastically received—returning in 1845. During the next seven years he gave concerts, built a --theatre in Bergen, and endeavored to estab lish ntional art schools in Norway. His patriotism occasioned him much trouble • and many prosecutions, involving ultimately the loss'of a large portion of his fortune, to which was added that - of his wile. With his remaining means he purchased one hundred- and twenty thousand acres of t wild land in Pennsylvania, on which he 41esigned to sgttle - a large colony. The co lony project, however, proved a failure, and he was forced once more .to concert giving.' In 1854, just after the completion of the Academy of Music in this city, he leased the building, with the intention of under taking the management of the Italian opera. This was also an unsuccessful enterprise,' and attended with heavylosses. Since then he has given concerts in all portions of Eu- . rope and in this country, generally with success. His death at the age of fifty-six is doubtless to some extent the result of a suc cession of mikfortunes, any "one of which might have crushed a man of ordinary en ergy and pluck, but which did not seem to , make him the less resolute and confident of the future. THE merciless slayer of African lions, Mr. Gordon Cumming, has at length fallen a.victim to a more terrible destroyer. He died at Inverness, Scotland, on the 24th of last month. He was born on the 15th of March, 1820, and was the second son of Sir William Gordon Cumming. He early showed a passion for hunting, and became an adept at deer-stalking in the highlands of Badenoch. Afterwards he was in the British army for some years, and left it sherd the year 1843. Between October of - that year and March, 1849, he made several hunting forays into the interior of Africa, -the marvelous accounts of which he pub lished in his "Hunter's Life in South Africa." With his acknowledgedjskill as a hunter of lions was joined a less commenda ble passion for the indiscriminate slaughter of more harmless game, and an ability in telling large stories really remarkable. On his return to England he made considerable profit by the exhibition of the trophies of his hunting expeditions. Or late years he has confined his attention mainly to the game in the Scotch Highlands. SotriarEurr CROP REPORTS.- The Austin (Texas) Gazette says its exchanges from all parts of the State , are replete with encour .aging accounts of the weather, crops, and the operations of the freedmen. The latter lave universally - accepted - the -" situation," arid gone to work. The Gazette predicts an abundant harvest. In Choctaw county, Miigs., the negroes generally are working well; plantations are repaired and put in order, an& good hopes are entertained for the ie next crop. The Huntsville (Ala.), Advocate of a late date remarks : A recent trip through the eastern portion of this and into Marshall county, revealed to us a very gratifying fact: that was the energy, indus try, and spirit the people are displaying in repairing fences, improving dwelling-homes clearing up and ploughing lands, sowing oats, preparing to plant corn and cotton. CATTLE DISEASE AT PANAMA.—The Sec-' retary of the Treasury has addressed the following circular to the Collectors of Cus toms , TREASURY DEPARTMENT, Aprill7, 1866. Sul: I have received through the State De partment a despatch from the Consul of the United States at Aspinwall stating that a cattle disease along the line of the Panama Railroad has made its appearance, and a considerable number are dying daily. The - writer does not seem to regard the diseaselas the rinderpest, but I deem it important that great care should be used in regaiii to all entries of cattle from the vicinities named, without being fully satisfied that they are free frotn disease. QtrrrE A FALL.-On Wednesday, as one of Messrs. E. et G. Brooke's four horse teams; was crossing the Canal bridge at Birdsboro', the bridge gave way, precipitat ing the entire team into the. Schuylkil Canal, by, which one of the horses was drowned - and the others all severely bruised and injured. The three horses were got out with:great difficulty by the.workmen atthe Furnace, close by. The accident was caused by a - boatman, who; it appears, took off a bolt at the bridge. in order to loosen his rud der, which stuck fast in passing -under the bridge, and neglected to replace the bolt.
