The four- FENALE, ._- teenth annual commencement of ,this insti tution' was held this afternoon, at the Col lege _bullding, Twenty-second street .and Worth, College avenue. The exercises were operied with prayer try Rev. Edward Hawes. T.:Morris Perot, Esq., the President of the Board of Corporators, then conferred • the degree of Doctor of Medicine upon the following graduates : Rlize j, Chapin; New Work; 7abeth C. Warrington, New Jersey; Harriet A. Wylie, Wisconsin; Charlotte T. Wocitiruff, New York. The :valed ictory address was deliverd by Mark G}. Kerr, M. D. Professor of Materia 31ffedica and fieneral Therapautim. This College, the first in the world regu larly organized for the instruction of wo rnen4n-the-verioris --departments ing taught in the best medical schools, opened its first session on October 121h,1850, with a faculty of six Professors—regular practitioners, and graduates of regular 1 11 0h 0 0 3 . During the early, years of its exist ence; the ,College struggled with many dif- • acuities. The session which has just closed has been attended by alargerclass'of regular, students than any former one, and the .se venteenth annual announcement is issued under „circumstances More Hopeful and encon.ragMg than have before existed. Seventy-one etudents have received the diploma of theinstitution since itaineeption tuidabout - four that number.have, anatriculateditiid attendi3d its leotures.. Three of the chidrs'. of the College are, tiled by its graduates; and' many more now occupy honored and profitable positions in their' ,respective localities, as successful practitioners of .thedicine. , , Quitea large • percent, age have been the daughters; sisters, or wives ,of physicians,: and•thw3 have not only.possessed.fadilities for study,. but have:been able to commence: practice at home, receiving aid from those Interested in their , welfare+, and giving it in return. A few have made their practice largely!' consulting or office practice. Still others in. their professional capacity have entered< seminaries of learning, hospitals, or other establishments, where they receive good remuneration: and the demand there as fOr the •services of medical women as teachers and lecturers upon sanitary sub jecta evinces that the possession of a sotuid raedioal education is already appreciated in the community as an instrument of power and: a means of extended usefulness. F SERENADE TO A PROMINENT FENIAN.- Genera B. F. Mullen, Chief of the Military and Navakpepartment of the Fenian Bro therhood, was serenaded last night, at the Girard House,-by the sympathizers with the movement for Irish Nationality. Patriotic American and Irish airs were performed by the Liberty Cornet Band, and speeches made by General Mullen, District Centre A.ndrtziw 'Wynne and John Hassen, Esq. General 31ullen promised his friends that they need riot . have any fears of a violation of the neutrality laws by Col. O'Mahony. His remarks excited much enthusiasm. During the next week the - Fenian Brother hood will hold a series of meetings through out the city, commencing on Monday night at Jefferson Hall, when General Mullen, Stephen J. Meany, of Cleveland, and others will make addresses. To-night the Fenians will participate in a social entertainment at Fenian 'Hall, southwest corner of Twelfth and. Chestnut streets. CONCERT HALL was well filled on Tuesday evening, by a select and appreciative au dience, who .listened with pleasure to the reading of Professor Mark .Bailey, of Yale College. His style of elocution is very good and:his declamation is nervous and intense, without being overwrought. We should judge that. his voice, which was a little thick, owing to a slight cold, was extremely 'exible and quite highly cultivated. The faces of those in the audience reflected al- TEMA every emotion of the speaker, and they appeared thoroughly to enjoy his ren dering of the pieces, some of which were familiar to them. Another visit to our city will make Professor Bailey, who appeared for,the first time before a Philadelphia au dience, better known to us, and we reserve our criticism of his ability until we can hear. him again. „•-.. A NITISA.NCE.—In Hudson street, below Chestnta, there is a huge pile of ashes, and garbage-of various kinds upon the side walk. This dirt has been accumulating there for menthe, and now occupies the whole breadth of the pavement, to the great annoyance of the many persons who pass through-the streetduring the day and night. There is an ordinance prohibiting the throw ing,ef ashes, itc., in the streets, but it does ~ .arot.appear to be the duty of anybody either 'to enforce the law or to remove this nui sance. It is to be hoped that the proper authorities will attend to this matter soon. DOMESTIC rISL&ERETS.—Prices in market this morning were as follows : apples, 25 to 40c. per half-peck; butter, 60 to 70e. per lb.; -cabbage, 8 to 12c, per head; cranberries, 14 to 18c. per quart; eggs,, 25 to 28c. per dozen; roast beef; 22 to 25c. per lb.; sirloin steaks, 27 to 30c. per lb.; mutton, 10 to 20c. per lb.; .ionions, 20 to 25c. per half-peck; parsnips 10 to 15c. per half-peck; pork, 15 to 20e. per lb.; potatoes, 18 to 20c. per half-peek; poul try, 20 to 28c. per lb.; turnips, 10 to 12c. per half-peck; and veal, 12 to 22e. per lb. Susquehanna avenue on :Wednesday night, and Hester Richardson, a colored girl, was bound over, on her own confession,on the charge of setting fire to a bed and ashstand at the residence of Mr. B.
