MATCH. .t We alluded last week, briefly to the fact that a match has' bieh arranged - between Mr. Reichhelm, of this city. and Mr. George :a Mackenzie, the champion of the New. York Tournament' It has been the. inten tion of the Philadelphia Club to challenge whoever might be, the winner in the late contest in Nevi York,.und - the match which we have had, the pleasure of arranging be . tween. Messrs. Reichhelm and Mackenzie is the result of that purpose. This, will, form the fifth regular Chess contest„ 'between the two, cities. The first was the famous .Cor respondence Match played .in - ,1856-7; be tween. Messrs: fitontgoniebr, Randolph, Thomas, Lewis and DOugherty, Of Philadel phia, against 'a Conimittee'of the beat New York idairers.', Thliniatch was - finally de terrnined• by Philadelphia winning both games. c, The - next 1611 of skill, was the Tele graph Match, plaYed: December, 1858, and Janus27;4Bs9, between kesirs. Montgome ry, Thomas; Randolph, LeurislindElkin,bn the part 'off Philadelphia, against 'Messrs. ichtenhein, ThoMpson, Perrin,;Marache and . t‘iske. Much fine play was exhibited on this occasion, which terminated irCeno thin. victory for Philadelphia, the, score be ing Philadelphia, 1; Drawn, 1. The third contest was the single match be ween TMessrs. Lichtenhein, .of New York, and H, P: Montgomery, of Philadelphia, for the first seven games, played in January, 1861, which resulted as- follows: Lichten hein7 ;. Montgomery, 2 Drawn, L The fourth match was the Telegraph Match, played in January, 1851, between Mesirs Thomas, Reichhelm and Whiteman, of Philadelphia, and Messrs. Brenzinger, Johnson and Chamier, of New York. This match was for one game, which was won by Philadelphia. The match played in March, 1861, between Messra. Leonard, of New York, and Dwight, of Philadelphia, is not to be included in the list of matches between the two cities, as it was only a private and personal trial of skill, neither gentlemen being recognized as representatives oftheir respective cities. The present match, which commenced last evening, at the New York Chess Club, is for the first seven games: By mutual consent, the moves are to be limited to an average•of five minutes, and only one game is to be played at each sitting, unless other wise agreed upon. Mr. Mackenzie has al ready played several important matches with v Messrs. Anderssen, Deacon,,McDon- Bell and Medley, besides his recent play in the New York Toirnament, while Mr. Refehhelm has as yet played none, bit un important matches with memhers of the Philadelphia Club, and occasional off-hand contests with visitors from abroad. We shall report the progress of the match from day to day; inouriegnlar Problem No. 428. BY ROETZ. • BLACK.
