INTERESTING CHESS MATCH.-- , We have the pleasure of andouncing that a match has been arranged between Mr. Reichhelm and Captain Mackenzie, the champion of the New York Tournament. The match will commence, in New York; in a few days, and will be a very exciting contest. --- The Reichhelm-Jellett match was resumed last Monday evening, and the score at present stands:‘ Reichhelm, 4 ; Jellett, 4; Drawn, 2. !NEW YORK TOURNAMENT. 3IACKENZI_E VICTORIOUS. Macken zie and Graves. It was decided that Mr. Mackenzie should give his opponent the odds of the Knight and pawn and two moves alternately, and the result was that Mr. j‘lackenzie won both games, and thus be came the victor of the Tournament. We extract the following from the St. Catharines (C. W.) Constitutional: "With this issue we close our Chess Col umn ; the object we had in view when coin menemg it being realized—which was, that Canada might have a paper that devoted a small space to the interests of the numerous admirers of the noble game residing in the Province. The Montreal Saturday Reader now publishes a column weekly, which we sincerely trust, may prove a permanent one. We sincerely thank those friends and con tributors who assisted us so freely during our short existence." The following remarks on the above are from Wilkes' Spirit: "As a zealous, untiring, and enthusiastic advccate of the noble game, our friend Geo. Groves, its Chess editor, fully deserved sup port and success. We strongly surmise that his retirement from the columns of the Con stitutional is disgust at the want of space al lowed him in the aforesaid paper. Short sighted journal proprietors think their col umns are more embellished through re hashed yarns than through a well-conducted Chess Column. What an absurdity—even in a pecuniary point of view! No account ing ice taste, however, as buffoonery will often take better than intellect." • Problem No. 427. BY M. DE lILLOW.
