The Police Force—New Regulations. Some additions are about to be made to the present night pollee force, and Mayor Lowrj -will at once regrdate a change which ills hoped and believed will result beneficially to the.city. Tice night police will be divided Into two reliefs. The first relief, consisting of about fifteen men, will go on 'duty about two o'clock in the after norm, and condone till midnight. The balance of the force will go on duty at eight o'clock In the evening, and remain on their beats till the meal hour for quitting—llya and a half o'clock iu the morning. The entire. force will be tint; formed forthwith, and every means will b cm ployed.to render them efficient. The object of the Mayor, in Making the change above noticed, is to get astrougcr force on during the afternoon and fore part of the night. The day police force Is entirely Inadequate to the police requirements of the city. and by employing fifteen additional men daringg the afternoon and up to twelve o'clock at night, it is thought that the municipal regulations can be greatly improved. Most of the disorder and rowdyism transpires before midnight, and a greater force is consequently required up to that time. In the meantime, the Police committee arc taking such measures as will entirety change the present method of appointing the police. A bill has been prepared, which will be presented at the present eessidn of the Legislature, proviglng for the. appointment,of a Board of Police mom, missioners, (of which the Mayor shall be a mem, bet.) who shall, have power to appoint the day aid night police, nd: continue them In office during good beh avior. This will secure a VIIIL• tint:lance of the services of many faithful and experienced officers yho would otherwise beset aside at each succeselve election for Mayor.' There are other commendable features in l i he bill, and the igmmittea will use their efforts to secure Its . maage before- the Legislature ad. learns. . soutlrroas,or FIU DAY, StAncii :t, ien .3 ttmes;3. time e 1 t ttme Defy. e week..week!. week QTY AND SUBURBAN.
