"Careful , attention" to some facts

and of the existence of which the

theliberality of the Review in crediting the
'Yankees" with the invention of the art of
mixing human colors was an act of great
injustice to our "Southern brethren," with
whom should rest the honor of not only in
venting but practicing that sublime art.
We have no doubt that the Review will gladly
correct its error, especially 'llll the correc

It appears, then, by the census of IMO,
. that more than half a million of the colored
people of the South, or, about one in eight,
swathe blood kindred of the white people of
that section. Thus, in Louisiana, of the
free colored people, eighty-one and one
fourth per cent. are of mixed blood. In
Alabama the percentage of mixed blood is
seventy-seven tier cent.; in Texas it is
almost seventy-seven; in South Carolina,
. almost seventy-two; in North Carolina, over
seventy-one; in Florida, sixty-nine. So
much for the "misc.genatihn" practiced with,
the free colored population of the South by
their white Southern neighbors. In the six
States named, about !Malty-fir( oat of every
hundred of the (ree colored population have
white blood in 'their veins. Now look at
