Ptaurfh (iPmMt. 110,11DAY-,MOILOG.:=APIIII 4 , 1864 Inf.:matlop' for the “Poet.,, - . . e .Post of - *is city has recently given ei' sof unusual editorial activity and en rise, and among those signs Is the pro d 'On and indorsement of two mortaicol col- omits of eincidatlen of the new "Yankee" doctrine of "miscegenation," taken from 'the very, respectable English °hen of the very respectable Southern Confederacy, the London Spff clay . l4viete. Tho clatter of the ' Pig is — kind 'enough to "direct the reader's Careful attention" to the Review article, and, as we are one of the regular and always edified readers of th most excellent ~ rep ertory of political criticism and polite lit, nature, the Past, we have not only taken his advice in the matter of giving our"carefed attention" to the delectable production aforesaid, bat, moved .by a sense of the most profound gratitude, we are also im pelled to assist tier neighbor in his mis cegenatory researches by directing hie "Careful , attention" to some facts boring upon the general subject, and of the existence of which the .tenth-telling Review seems to have been en tirely ignorant. These facts go to show that theliberality of the Review in crediting the 'Yankees" with the invention of the art of mixing human colors was an act of great injustice to our "Southern brethren," with whom should rest the honor of not only in venting but practicing that sublime art. We have no doubt that the Review will gladly correct its error, especially 'llll the correc tion will, afford another argument why the Southern Confederacy ehoold Immediately be recognized by all civilised nationr; nor do we doubt in they least that the Past editor will show hit t appreciation of our efforts to serve him and his readers by at once pub lishing in his paper the facts to whiCh we refer. It appears, then, by the census of IMO, . that more than half a million of the colored people of the South, or, about one in eight, swathe blood kindred of the white people of that section. Thus, in Louisiana, of the free colored people, eighty-one and one fourth per cent. are of mixed blood. In Alabama the percentage of mixed blood is seventy-seven tier cent.; in Texas it is almost seventy-seven; in South Carolina, . almost seventy-two; in North Carolina, over seventy-one; in Florida, sixty-nine. So much for the "misc.genatihn" practiced with, the free colored population of the South by their white Southern neighbors. In the six States named, about !Malty-fir( oat of every hundred of the (ree colored population have white blood in 'their veins. Now look at the slave.popastion of the entire South. By the comma of 1850 there were of mixed blood among that Glass bat met and three tenths par Cant.; and in 1860,a0 busy had our . "Sonthern brethren" of the Democratic party Icon In augmenting the numerical power if the "divine institution," that the sews and three tenths had been increased to ten and four-tenths. That Is to say, in 1860, when the Southern wing of the Democratic party concluded to secede from the Union one slave out of every ten could boast that in his or her veins coursed the blood of the chivalry of the youth With tßls foregoing ' - facts before no, bow very far wrong was the Review is treating of the doctrine of "mis cegenation" as of pure "Tonkel, - invention! We do not know that our obligations to the Post should permit us to stop here. We migtit eati the editor's .'careful ideation' to the well-known chapter in American history which records how on eminent Dem ocrat and elaveholder, Col. Romano M. Joassos .(he who killed Tecumseh,) became ,the husband of his black slave woman, who bore him mulatto children; and how, not tong after, the Colonel was elected by the - Detniterstio party to' the Vice Presidency of 'the United States; and hew, in course of time, his mulatto daughters were married to white Democrats and Bentticklans like Um- self.
