TROT ITEDIs...ED.. REPORTER—Dear
Sir : Here in Troy as well as elsewhere
the topic of the - day seems to be the polit
ical situation. It is discussed both pub
licly and privately, and this very discus-
sion of the subject is encouraging to all
who believe in an honest straightforward
policy, and who want an honest currency.
I say it is encouraging to this class of
men, because in the simple discusiou of a
subject the right will continually gain
frknils and supporters, while the wrong
will always lose. •
However . there are not many of. the
Greenback persuasion in Troy. They did
not.have - g,otel success. in the beginning.
For a number. of weeks they tried very
hard to have a meeting, but failed com
pletely. But finally by importing a few
"stool pigeons " (one was a , very large
one, and told us he came from among the
ancient Democrats of Towanda) and mak
ing great efforts generally, they managed
to get together a few men, who went. be
cause they Lad nothing else to do, -and
some small boys, who went "to ace the
fun and do the cheering," and called it a
"Greeuback meeting." But it was a'
complete failure, for the'statement of the
principal speaker that he had been a Dem
ocrat and 'stumped the county as such for
more than fourteeu - 3 ears, did not seem
to be exactly,
,the kind of talk, to make
converts to tne Greenbackers. From the
scarcity and silence of the Greenbackers
since this meeting I infer that this togeth

was enough of Greenbackism for the peo

a single run of nearly 500 miles. Back to
Chicago again you look North-west, and

WEST WYSOL—On the morning of the
23d inst., we (including ourself and better
hell) made a tour by private ednveyance
to the nortea.stern part Of the county. Af
ter leaving the Wysox fists, and reaching
the summit' f the bill, we halted a little
time to view the 'Y valley which liks sh
smooth and level along the. Susquehanna
river. The . beautiful farms and farm
houges, K it h now and thewa church edi
fice to be seen Justin distance, reminds
one that the.farmers do not neglect to
contribute freely of their substance to the
suppOrt of the Gospel, as well as beauti
tying their own homes. We passed' on
over the hills and through the valleys
finding large farms and well-to-do farm
ers on either"side of the road, with now.
afid then a woods-reserved for wood and
timber. - At CaMptowis we* reached the
Wyaltusing creek ; along which as we pass
• t

a - good deal.of interest, not only the good
farm* and buildings, but the; old-fashion
ad denerted honsee which 'no - doubt had
been occupied by families of at least three
or four generations. They were one and
a halrstorles high, 'with large stone chitii
neys and small windows, and built dole
to the ground. Them buildings remind us
of the clays when our grandmother homed
tallow candles, - carded" wool by - hand, ope
rated tie - spinning wheel, wove in- the
old-fashkoned teem, and rooked her babies
in asap - .rough.-
We continued our parsley up 'the
stream until we reached the large farm
and residenoe of H. B. Van Gelder, Bsg.•
who, years ago was stage proprietor of the
'route between Towanda and Montrose.
' Somehow ho bas managed 'to pick up
piles of stamps, and has become the own
er of one of the best farms in the vallei.
Here we stopped,' and were 'warmly greet

By the Way he is not a, bard-shell Demo

we- found on his table—the New-York
Timis and BRAPORD REPonren, which he
called two very excellent papers. After
' enjoying `two Sumptuous meals and a
good bed, the following morning our host
conveyed us with a good rig , to Leßays
title, a distance of five miles.. Here we
found a pleasant village, inhabited by a
friendly and hospitable- people, and sur
rounded by a country which they have a
right to be proud of. After aplease" nt
chat with a few of the inhabitants, we re
turned to Stevensville, on Wyelnaing

friends enjoyed' a splendid dinner with
