BepoaTEa : The .temperance movement isl!at present igitating the minds of the people throughout this' land. Wyi hear of the "temperance donde "1 being isucceasfidly carried on in the principal cities and towns of Ohio, NM York and Pennsylvania. It has been inaugurated in onr neighboring cities; Wd hamsport and Elmira, and bids fair to check the evils of intemperance, if not wholly to drive the liquor traffic from their midst, and there is no known.reason why the people of Towanda should *Wain idle, when "saloons," "orders," 'etc., are so numerous in our town. About a year ago the people of Bradidid de cided that no license for the tale of intoxicat= ing drinks sliOnld bo granted. This pat a stop to the public sale of the man-destroying spirits for a short time; but at present, how is it ? It is neetilesii Co answer. There have been efforts made to bring the violators to justice, but for some unexplainable setae's, have been futile. Bit few have suffered the penalty of the law. Why is, it ? Rave we no person who' will take tholetd to some means by which the liquor traffic may be lessened, if not wholly swept from our midst? , Should we, living in a " local option " county, permit the temperance question to go' by un heeded, whets • saloons are multiplying and drunken men walking our streets ? Should we remain idle when the temperance people of the country aro making such a desperate effort to get rid Taf the monster—intemperance? These are questions which should be answer ed and acted Opon. 141:Mt wish to be understood to imply that the " women's enisade" Is the thing for Towan da; or the only way in which the liquor traffic can be suppressed, and the temperance cause promoted ; But some steps should be taken to root out this evil, and ,y so doing better so ciety, lessen misery, and increase happiness. -430 NA FM& A MUSICAL REVIVAL.—The princi pal interest iritkus during the , week past has been the musical onmentio.n.
