Mr. Manic has laid his plans to
secure a naember of the legislature
from Lycoming county, - favorable to
his schemes, and should he be suc
cessful _i will require a united op-.
position on the part of those opposed
to 111innequa, in this county, to
thwart his designs. This is the par
amount issue; and all .questions of
party policy were lost sight of by the
republican convention, in selecting

been brought to bear. Division or
anti division is the question to be
settlea at the ballot-ho's on the 14th

election will 'be an acknowledged
honor to the republican party and a
credit to the.intelligence of Bradford

recommend e_ very one -0f them to the
hearty and united support of the
party. , ,
A DEmocaxiic paper in Detroit,

The following letter from a well
known citizen of this county, now
residing in nuladelphia, is worthy of
attention,. particularly as the writer
does not claim to be a party man: I
PartAnztrais, Sept. Xi, 1873.
Emmen Ramona Baronies :—Judging from.
• e columns of the Argus; there seems to be an
effort to defeat or materially deplete the ma
jority of ,the itimubliean nominees for the Leg
islature this fall. , I am 'a Liberal Republican,
and ackbowledge myself bound to vote for no
man on account of party ties. Not principles
alone, but principles and ; men is my motto.
But, really, ,how any one can find fault sith
Ur. Webb is a matter of surprise. For :ability
as a legislator, integrity and earnestness as a
publics official, no man in the State' stands
ahead of dames H. Webb. , Why people should
attempt to malign and the influence of
their best men, is to me a faystery. Go where
On will in' Pennsylvania and Mr. Webb is
known and respected. ;Why shoull his party
friends in Bradford'comity seek to defeat him
now, wheullie party mother parts of the State
are readjo to add to his already well-earned
honors? Bradford comity must always be
without a proper representative at the seat of
her state and national governments, if she per
sists in slaughtering her ablest acne for the
sake of carrying oat the paltry system of rota
tion in Office. Always' rotate boobies out and
men of talent and ability in, is the only reason
able course. We have no idea that the keen
old pioneers of jostice;to all men in Bradford
county will be hoodwinked into the support of
a straight democratic ticket. All the Farmers
Granges in the world cannot tickle their ears
to such an extent, nor will they believe that the
Farmers' movement is identical with the, dem
ocratic party. We hopelo be home to cast
one vote of as large a majority for Messrs.
Webb and Myer as over was polled for republi
can candidates in Bradford comity.

The St. Louis Republican, (Democrit

Into 'eternal nothingness,' is satis

of the rate at which this .process of
decomposition is going on, it is not
surprising that D6mocracy, all over

Among the recent events of Lie District, that
lately has been the subject of no small amount elf
comment, la the death of "Bran 7 imam," one of
the oldest residents and perhaps best know,chara4-

he made his advent at the Capital 1 does not now ap.
pear to be known. But young and of good appea,
an ce, pottered of a fortune, taatY and extmvapfit
in dress and lavish in his expenditures, he soo
became so notorious and-well known thrinighont
the country that no stranger who came to the city
failed to express a desire to s , him. From his
associates he received tiro appellation of "Bracy'
a name which he seems to have clung to through.
all the varied fortunes of his: ventfrd life. ' His
style and manner of living, how4er,soon exhaturi
ed his fortune and brought Llt4a to bankruptcr,
and, without sufficient energy, 1 or perhaps moffe
truthfully speaking, too proud to't work for a livimi,
he gradually descended from the bean to the bed.
pr. For many years past he could, at almost any
time, be found in the corridors of either the Metro •
politest or National Hotels, alwl Yll on the lookoiit

annoyance to the proprietors, he was-never abs 4
