County Teachqs Association was held Fri
day and Saturday, Feb. 14th and 15th; at
- the-Institute in Towanda.
At'll a. m. the first session was opened
with prayer by Ur. 'Coburn. After which,
tho President not being present, Wm: C.
Bogart was chosen President, pro. tent ;and
the reading of minutes of last meeting was
t.illed for, read and approved. 'Mr. Colt
then read a letter from the President of
'Association, C. C. Paine, of Tiey, announ
cing hie; inability to be present, accompany
_ ing which was an account of his recent visit
to the Giant's Causeway. The reading of
it was postponed till later. After this an
opportunity was given for those present to
register their nam e s.
Mr. Chas. R. Coburn - then offered the fol
luwing for discussion :
Resolved, That no person should receive a
certificate from the County Superintendent
as a teacher of our common schools. who is
less than eighteen years old, and who has
not,a'fair knowledge of all the branches re
quired by law to be taught, and who has not
made the business of teaching a study for at .
least three months.
After its adoption Mr. Coburn 'spoke in
the affirmative of question, Mr. Coburn and
0. J. Chubbuck following in the negative.
ssrs Guyer,. Corbin and others participa
ted in debate, and after a short discussion
Mr. Coburn was allowed to withdraw the
Ite•zolution and the meeting adjourned till
2 p. rs.
