DROWNED 'WHILE -DATHING.--The North
.ch (Tnnkbnnnoek) Vinocrat says :
Thos. Boardman; aged about 21 years, son
of Eleazer Boardman, of Eaton township,
was drowned in the river, a mile or two
above this place, on Supday last. The de
ceased, who, it is said, could not swim, was
bantered by one of his compardons,a young
man.by the name .of,Fnller, to wade across
the river.. Fuller, who could swim, led the
way ; Boardman, supposing him to be wa
ding, followed on, until he got beyond his
depth, when he strtmgleil and went down.
'Oa rising ho called for help. His Compan
ion, supposing him lo be"teigning danger,
paid no attention to his cries but' swam to
the eltor, where he arrived about the time
young Boardman sank for the lait time.—
A boat was procured and search made for
the body, which was not found until an hour
more had elapsed, when it was too late for
resuscitation.
LANDSCAPE ViEws.—The beautiful
scenery in our own neighborhood has been
I hitherto too much neglected by the artists
--lack of railroad facilities may have been
the chief cause—we treat that this.,cause
will soon be obviated 'by the new lines of
steam travel in course of completion—
there will then be a perfect rush of tourists
to our beautiful neighborhood. Rev. Mr.
DCi_CGLISS, writing from Switzerland, says,
in effect, that the scenery from TOwanda to
Wilkes-Barre, is hilly equal in beauty and
picturesque character, to auy thinfrhe has
seen in that `romantic country, The Hon.
Lady MuniLis has expressed herself very
highly on the landscape beauties of our
county.' The view of Towanda from the
DurellMouittain met with` her speciaiad
miratien.
We have been ledr to=these remarks by
looking over a large and 'varied collection
of Photographic and Stereoscopic views of
the dwellings and scenery in our neighbor
hood by Mr. on MORLY. We commend
the enterprise and skill of the artist, and
can honestly say that these pictures are all
excellent—the inevitable resu'lt follows that
orders areccoming thick and fast upon him.
He ought to make his fortune by goo : t
work and good subjects, and and he
