ments, as to its reading pages. "The Spirit of

SAD CASE OK DROWNING.—A young man
named REYNOLD CLAVER, was drowned on Satur
day last, in the Susquehanna, near the railroad
bridge .William sport. He was a student in the Dick
inson Seminary, and went to the river witlx a com
panion to bathe. Not being able to swim, he get
beyond his depth and was drowned. He was about
17 years ot age, the only son of a window, who re
sides at Shamokin.
HARD TO BEAT. —Abram Vausice, who re
sides iu Sheshequin, Pa., reared a family of nine
sons, every one of whom served his country in its
struggle with the late terrible rebellion. Their
names are as follows : Cornelius, Thomas, Andrew,
Abram, Riley, Robert, Charles, Jeremiah and
Samuel. The oldest, Cornelius, died in Hospital,
and the youngest, Samuel, died in Lilrby Prison ;
the lest of them served the full term for which
they enlisted, and have been honorably dischar
ged. All honor to the Vausice family. The Grand
father, John C. Vansice, served in the Revolution
ary War—was at Yorktown at the surrender of
Cornwallis, and in hearing of Gen. Lincoln, who
upon receiving the sword of the British comman
der. said : "My Lord, I once had the misfortune
to surrender my sword into your hands ; I now
have the honor of receiving yours."— Waterty Ad.
GREAT FIRE IN LOCK HAVEN. —On Tues
day morning last, the large building on the cor
ner of Church and Corning streets, Lock Haven,
was totally destroyed by lire. W. L. Hawkins was
the owner of the building and machinery. His j
loss will he about $15,000 ou which there is an in- j
surance of $9,000. Several others were heavy j
losers. The building was used as a Planing Ma- j
chine, Sash Factory, Machine Shop, Blacksmith I
Shop, Stump Machine Fac ory, Bakery, Flour and j
Feed Store, Grocery, Printing Office and Bag Fac- '
tory- I
A Harvest Party will be given at
the Milan House the 15th of Sept, 1865. All are

Lt. Col. GUY H. W'ATKINS, held in pursuance of no

was called to preside and N. C. EESBBEE, chosen
Secretary.
On motion, Maj. W. H. H. Gore, N. N. Bettsjr.,
and S. W, Alvord, M ere appointed a Committee to
collect the amount already subscribed, and to pro
cure additional subscriptions.
On motion, B. S. Russell, Hon. U. Mercnr, Wm.
C. Bogart, C. S. Russell, E. O. Goodrich, C. L.
Ward and F.. Overton jr., were selected as a Com
mittee to procure plans for a monument, and su
perintend the erection of the same.
Moved and carried that the proceedings of this
meeting be published. Signed by the Officers.
LERAYSVILLE UNION. —A neat newspaper,
bearing this title comes to us from the village of
Leßaysville, printed by S. F. LATHKOP, lately of
the Dushore Union. The first number is ably and
tastefully gotten up, and deserves the patronage
of the people of Eastern Bradford.
BURGLARY. —The Store of Hon. HENRY W.
TRACY, in Standing Stone, was entered on the
evening of Thursday hist, the safe opened, and
SSBO in money taken. The burglars also abstrac
ted receipts for $7500 in government bonds de
posited in a New Y r ork bank.
BlNDlNG. —Persons who may have mag
azines, books or music to bind, are reminded that
they can have the same done in first-rate style, at
the Bindery under the Reporter Office. Blank
books ruled and made to any pattern, as well and
substantantially, and as at low prices as can be
done elsewhere. Newspapers bound, and old
books re-bounil.
NEW OIL COMPANY.—A company has re
cently been organized at Owego, under the name
of the " Tuscarora Petroleum and Mini :g Com
pany " for boring for oil on the Apalachin, Wya
lusing, Wolf, W'ysox and Tuscarora Creeks.—
Twenty-five hundred acres of territory have been
secured for the purpose.
IMPORTANT. - -Persons holding Pension Cer
tificates can get the installment due the 4th of
Sept., by bringing their certificates to the Law
Office of JOHN W. MIX, Towaiula Pa., any time
after the 4th inst. He gives special attention
to the collection of Back Pay, Bounty Ac., of sol
diers who died in Southern Prisons.
BRADFORD COUNTY S. S. ASSOCIATION. —The
second annual meeting of this Association will be
held at Towanda, on the first Wednesday and
Thursday of Sept. next, beginning at 10 a. m. of
Wednesday.
There will be a sermon on S. S. work by Rev. H.
J. Crane, of Wysox, and one on S. S. Literature,
by Rev. A. F. Todd, of Athens. The following
topics will be presented for the action of the Asso
ciation :
Ist. What is the best system of S. S. rewards ?
2d. How can we prevent the evil of our scholars
leaving the S. S. at the age of fourteen and fifteen?
3d. What is the best method of conducting a S.
S, class to sustain their interests and lead them to
conversion.
4 th. In what manner shall visitors and strangers
be disposed of in our S, S's. ?
The election of officers for the commencing year
will take place during the meeting.
Friends of the 8. 8. cause, will you not exert
yourselves, and let us see at this annual meeting
at least one delegate from each 8. 8. in the coun
ty ? The prospects are good for a very interesting
and profitable meeting, and we hope to see a full
turn-out of the 8. 8. force of old Bradford.
The delegates on arriving at Towamla, will
please report to the committee on entertainment,
at the Presbyterian church, near the Court House.
Ample arrangements will l>e made to accommo
date all who may come.
The Pastors throughout the county are reques
ted to read the above call to their Reveral congre
gations, and much oblige the Ex. Com.

from George Beidleman of Chemung, N. Y., for a mure j
belonging to nte ; she was a BAY M ARE, 15 or 16 years !
1 old, with a small star in her lo r eberd, a ringbone on her j
off hind leg, and cut In her nigh fore shoulder made a j
tew days since, i will pay $lO for the apprehension of
the thief, aud $5 lor such information as will lead to j
! the recovery of the mare. Bcidlemau also offers a re- j
| ward for the apprehension of the thief,
i The negro was short, thick-set, with the left eye sore,
