B®. The appointment of Prof. COBURN to
tbe State Superintendency seems to give univer-al satis
faction. Oar exchanges speak in the mast flattering
terms of him. In our opinion no better selection could
hive been made.
CSJ- On Friday and Saturday, May 22 and
23d next, the Athens Farm Stock Association will hold
j Fair on their grounds, in Athens. The first day there
will he Trot and Racking match, together witn the ex
hibition of stock. Tbe second day there will be racing,
open to all. The track is one mile in length, newly fit
ted, and one of the best in the country.

it home on a short furlough, that the health of the Reg
iment is good, and the boys, as a general thing, are in
good spirits. Bri.-k times and hard fighting are soon ex

THE WHEAT CROP.—T:I spite of premature
croaking the prospect for a fair crop of wheat in Brad
ford county is good and improving every day. and from
what we have seen and beard, we have no doubt about
there being an average crop, unless tbe " fly" or other
cause* yet to happen, iujure it. From every present in
dication the prospect is good. We notice by papers tiom
the lower part of the State, that the wheat crop 100
*tll in that region, and a fair crop is anticipated.

tj Superintendent of the undersigned, will close on the
iast of Hay, it i* very desirable that the four month's
certificates and annual reports be all forwarded to his
office, belore that time, in order that "he may close up

DIED,
In Sheshequin, Pa., April 9th, Mr. GEORGE MAHLER
aged 71 years.
Mr. Mahler was born in Surinam, South America.bat
spent the greater part of his life in Switzerland. Fortune
smiled, anon and anon, frowned upon his pathway, but
found him ever the same kind and genial spirit. An
honest man, and believing everybody as honest, he grant
ed favors that were never returned, and the autumn of
his life found him in straitened financial circumstances ;
and nine years ago he came to tnis country to spend the
remainder of his days in the home of his son in-law, Mr
WM. J. DELPUCH.
A kind husband, an affectionate father, an upright citi.
Zen ; at a good old age he passed through the valley and
shadow of death. Hope to his surviving friends ; respect
to his memory. [Cow

Tbe deceased enlisted in this place, in Capt. PECX'S
company, and was an honest and industrious mechanic,
and a brave and faithful soldier. He died of a disease
contracted in the army, lamented and regretted by all
who knew him.

Bradford, that they be then and there in their proper

do those things which to their office appertains to be

of Fieri Facias issued out of the Court of Common
Pleas of Bradford county, will be exposed to public sale,
at the Court House, in the Borough of Towanda, on
Thursday, the 7th day of May, 1863, atl o'clock, p. ra.
the following described lot, piece or parcel of land situ
ate in Troy twp., beginning at a post, thence north C£°
east, 20 links to the south bank of Sugar Creek, adjoining
lands of Samuel Alien's heirs,thence south 42° east 4 4-10
purc.hes along the bank of the creek to a post, thence
south 47° west 2 4-10 perches to a post in line of the
State road, thence north 49£° west 4 perches along said
road to the place of beginning, it being the same piece of
laud formerly deeded by Samuel Allen aDd wife to Aaron
Cise, bearing dae the 7th day of May, 1853 ; til improv
ed, with 2 framed blacksmith shops thereon.

—beginning at a stake by the side of the road, being the
north east corner of the Parsonage lot, now occupied by

ble that they also furnish their own bed and bedding
when it is convenient, but when otherwise, these will be
furnished at a slight charge.
It is strongly recommended that students from abroad
should board in the Institution, as better opportunities
for advancement in study arc thereby secured.
Normal Department— Special exercises are arranged
without extra charge for those preparing themselves as
Teachers of Common Schools. Prof. C. R. COBURN, the
able and well known Superintendent of Common Schools
in the county, has kindly consented to organize the Tea
cher's class, and direct the course to be pursued.
He will also be present'to conduct its exercises as often
as practicable, and will deliver frequent lectures on the
Theory and Practice of Teaching,as alsoonother subjects
connected with Normal training.
Those persons, therefore, intending to engage in teach
ing for the winter, will find it greatly to their advantage
to be present during tire Fall term. ....
Prof. Coburn's connection with the institution is not
such as to in any way interfere with tbe discharge ot the
regular duties of his office.
No pains will be spared, on the part of the Faculty arc
Trustees in sustaining the high repnlatation the institiv
tion has hitherto enjoyed, and in rendering it more wor
hy of future patronage and support. . .
