In the Quarter Sessions tbe following business was
transacted:
Com-vs. DtCatur Coffin — l The defendant was indict
ed at the February Sessions, oa two separate charges,for
stealing horses, cn being arraigned, he plead guilty.
The Court sentenced him, upon each indictment, to pay
a fine of II to the Commonwealth, costs of prosecution,
and undergo an imprisonment in the Eastern Penitentia
ry for the term of two years—making upon both charges
four years.
Com. v?i. Charles Chapman and Richard Hancock.—
Defendants were indicted at February Sessions for steal
ing a pair of lines from the barn of David Itidgway, in
Monroe townihip. Charles Chapman plead guilty, and
Richard Jlaocsck plead not guilty, and the Jury return
ed a verdict of not guilty. Charics Chapman was sen
j tenced to pay a fine of $l, costs of prosecution, and un
| dergo au imprisonment of 30 days in the County jail,
j Com. vs. Edward llollinson. — Defendant was indicted
i at February Sessions for Assault and Battery upon tbe
| person of his wife. The Jury Cud bim guilty, and the
■ Court seuteuced him to pay a tine of I2s,costs of prose
i cation, and stand committed, Ac.
Com. vs. IVilliam Homing. —Defendant was indicted
at February Sessions for taking a bag containing store
i goods from a wagon in Iliiigbury township. He plead
guilty to the charge. It being proved that he was at the
i time so nearly " disguised *' with liquor as to be almost
unable to tell whether tbe goods belonged to himself or
not, the Court sentenced him to pay a fine of $l. costs of
prosecution, and undergo an imprisonment in the County
jail for the term of two months.
Com. vs. Isasc Powers. —Defendant was indicted for
assault and battery upon Isaac Howell, tavern-keeper at
Standing Stone. The evidence showed that Powers had
a " high old time " generally, and the Jury found him
guilty of the charge.
Com.ur. Henry McCracktn. —Surety of the Peace.
■ Xo one appearing to prosecute, uefeuduut discharged by
: order of the Court.
Com. vs. J.hn Shear. —Defendant indictedat this Sea.

i boro'. After hearing evidence, defendant withdraws his
plea of not guilty and pleads guilty. Sentenced to fay a

Defendant was indicted at present Sessions tor selling
t liquor to minors, drunkards, Ae. and a second indict
ment for selling liquor ou Suudajr. He plead guilty to
both indictmeuts, and was sentenced to pay a fine of ILU
and costs of prosecution, and to be confined in tue Coun
ty jail lor ten days upon each charge.
Com. vs. Hamsun V'roman. —lndicted at February
Sessions, for larceny, in taking away a spau of hordes,
tue property of Daniel I'erry. Jury fiuu the defeudaut
not guilty.

| Mi'ler, urul Jacob Impson —lndictment for riot. The ev.
! idence showed that John Sweeney had borrowed a pair i
I of bol-sleds of U. W. Miller, in Armenia township, and 1
Miller in going after the sleds was accompanied by tbe i
other defendants. They searched the premises tor the 1
sleds, and the Jury considered in such a " tumultous " ]
manner, as to become riotous, and found them guilty I
fhCourt sentenced 11. W. Millet to pay a fine of s'2o I

tioe, and stand eommitted, Ac.
Com. vs. John Sweeney. —The dvfend.iut was indicted j
for burning the barn of Alba Burnham. in Armenia town,
ship. The Jury found him not guilty, but that be pay
the costs of prosecution. 110 was accordingly sentenced
to pay the costs, Ac.
CUm. vs. Harlow Button and li'm. Johnson. —The de
f tndants were indicted at present Sessions for stealing a
■>' teep, the property of Wrn. F. Cole, of Asylum town
ship. It was proven on the trial, that about the time the
-hivep was missing, they slaughtered a sheep, which
the/ alleged had been worried by dogs and driven to the
liver, near their residence The Jury found Harlow But
ton guilty ol larceny, aud Wm. Jobnsou of receiving tiie

Com.vs. Stth H. Briggs. —The defendant was indicted,
tried and convicted of Murder, at December Sessions.
His counsel moved fo.r a new trial, which was granted at
February Sessions. Upon being arraigned at the pres
ent Sessions,the plead guilty. The Court thereupon pro- i
ceeded to the exam inn tion of witnesses for the purpose < f
fixing the degree of U .e crime, and place it at Murder in
the Second Degree. ( 'pon being brought up fr sentence,
he was asked if he bad any thing to say belore sentence
was pßioed upon him. He answered that he had but to
