The Settlement of Italy. Late publications in French journals 6eem to make certain the purpose of France to annex to her territory Savoy and the county of Nice. This fact, tnkcii in connection with the return of Count Cavour to power in Sar dinia, gives room for the supposition that it is now resolved to annex the independent pro vinces of Italy to Sardinia ; and there is good reason, also.to believe that this easy and only solution of existing difficulties in Italy will be equally approved by France and England. If no new complication of affairs, therefore, should lie caused by disturbances in A enetia, or iu the provinces yet governed by the Pope, the Italian question may be regarded as fully set tled, no power being in situation to draw the sword for the Holy See, or for the exiled dukes. It remains to be seen, it is true, inde pendently of new accidents in Italy, whether England will agree to the territorial indemnity however modest it may be, which France may stipulate that Sardinia shall give her in this case. It seems probable, however, that the British Minister will make 110 opposition to the arrangements at the Tuilleries. It is thought he will propose to Parliament absolute neutra lity, so as not to oflVnd those Powers that may not oc pleased to see the people of Italy dispose of themselves at their own free will.— Kngland, doubtless, is now too well pleased with the commercial advantages to be derived from her late treaty with France, to allow her old jealousy to inflame her into demanding of her representatives in Parliament opposition to such a settlement, so much to the glory of France, and also so satisfactory to her desire for territorial aggrandizement, to be gratified b\ the compensation to be given her by Pied jiiont, in the cession of Savov and Mice. Anii.TKßATiox OK Ligrorts.—As an indica tion of the vile adulteration of liquors sold in the United States, the Detroit Tiibune says that Dr. Miller, inspector of liquors at De troit, has reported that of three hundred and eighty-two samples cf vhi.-ky inspected, he found but tw o pure. lie found 110 pure French brandy. In one hundred and sixty-four sam pies of gin, he found twenty-nine pure. In thirty two samples of Jamaica rum, he found but nine pure, and so on. JHtei SUtorrtfsrmcnts.
