~e pers publish the affidavit of Henry Fredericks,
ih e watchman of the steamboat White Cloud, in
which the recent fire had its On . the night
of the c onflagratiOn he went on 1:19a rd th e h eat at
7 4 o'clock, and met an Irishman coming off, who
told him he had been looking for a friend. On ex
amination he did not discover that the Irishman had
done any injury, but about two hours atter the fire
broke out. While it was burning, Charles Blount,
came and told him that

he had known for three days that the White Cloud
was to be burned, and wished he had the money

has left St. Louis for New Orleans, but the authori
ties have taken measures to secure his arrest.
