The jacket is not only lined with silk, but has also a flannel inlay, and with it is worn a silk blouse of the same shade as the cloth, belted in with a narrow leather belt The plastron is sewed into the seam at the right shoulder, but is 1 buttoned on both sides. The epaulets are continued around the back in the manner ot s short pelerine. In tront the skirt is slit up into tabs, which are trimmed as ahown, A Draty n'tnter Garb. with fur. The hat has a crown in the same material and is trimmed with the same far as the dress. fluffs promise to become more reasonable in sire. It seems too ridiculous to aggra- ate the evil of cold fingers by carrying about a muff too small to cover the bands. It would be far more reasonable for the lady of fashion to revive the quaint old custom of carrying a live poodle about in cold weather to serve as a mufl, but the society for the pre 'enlion of cruelty, etc., would soon put a stop to such a practice, no matter how pic turesque it might be, especially when the FOR LADIES and CHILDREN. One very becoming war to apply this trimming is to run three nar row rows of it around the bottom of the skirt and to run a single row around the VUb UUb yi fcUC UUUIUO 1U1U su uunu bU bUD waist, thus framing the embroidered plas tron and producing a fine effect. There is a very handsome woolen material w'ith a rough surface simulating astrachan which will be very popular for winter costumes. It looks very well in gray or black. P.LOKETTE. Seen Around tho Smoky City. The winter has hardly begun, as to mil linery, but still the busy brain of the head gear fashioner is at work planning the spring styles. "Hats have been trimmed at the back, in the front, at one side and on top," said one of Pittsburg's most fashion able milliners yesterday, "and now it seems as if there is nothing left but to trim them on both sides." It is said it will take a very pretty and modish girl to wear a bat done up in this manner, for they are de cidedly trying but very chic. This is the season of combinations both in street and house dresses. Some lovely creations, or confections that's the "new descriptive word are shown in heliotrope and black, a delicate tint ot lavender and black, Kile green and black ami dainty pale blue and pale piok with black velvet trimmings. An odd but rather stylish gown worn by one of Pittsburg's fair maidens at a reception last evening was of light tan corded silk with sleeves, girdle and small ruffles around the edge of the skirt of mulberry silk. This color is said to resemble grape juice, or something be tween uajenta and heliotrope. The slippers and gloves matched the mulberry silk. Among the new purses are the heart shaped. It is imperative now that no mat ter what the form of your purse, it must in every cae match your costtimt. A pretty novelty in bridal fans is gauze, with bride's future initials traced along one side in her lavoritc notver, and a view or her new home delicately painted in the center. Knickerbockers as Petticoats. Winter petticoats are now being in a very great measure superseded by knicker bockers in London, and manv ladies when ordering anew walking dress have a pair of knickerbockers of the same material or in fine serge sent with it. They render walking far less fatiguing than tbe Heavy winter petticoats. Each petticoat not only adds to the weight ot the dress, but also impedes the movements of the legs by constantly pressing against them in the act of walking. That is one reason why girls when walking with their brothers become fatigued so much sooner than boys da With serge knickerbockers fatigue is avoided without any diminution of warmth. Fads, Follies and Foibles. IlAjfMiEitCfUEFS of palo pink, blue, lavender, green, or yellow ehifTon, hem stitched and finished with a very uarrow bordering ot black lace, are shown. All manner of odd little waists, to be worn with the same plain skirt ot servicea ble black silk, will be of great help in pro ducing a pleasant variety in tbe wardrobe. The bracelet clovo has a richly embroid ered band that fits tightly around tbe wrist, and it is perfumed by a secret process, v hereby the perfume cannot be aestro; ed. It would be a pity for the plain, light, lined skirt that has been worn this year to go out o vo ne yet awhile, for it would De difficult to invent another more comiortable or easier to hold up In muddy weather. Tee long ribbons fancied on tue backs of gowns seem to have transferred themselves to tbe fronts or long cloaks; they are, how ever, much wider, and are tied in front in very long loops, wnile the ends reach quite to the edge oi tbe skirt. A riot was pre cipitated in the prison at Zenami to-day by the actions of a hysterical female prisoner, who leaped from the guard rail on the top floor of the building to the ground floor, sustaining serious injuries. The convicts, believing the woman was being ill-treated, revolted. The prison officials were nnable to quell the disturbance and the military was called in.
