The exhibition or pictures by Pennsylvania artists destined fr the World's Fair to be held in January next will take its place. Mr. HetzelIs at work on three large can vases destined for the World's Fair. The misty autumn effect mentioned in these columns a lew weeks ago is rapidly nearing completion, and though out of Mr. Hetzel's usual vein is one ot his happiest efforts. As excellent exhibition of artistic work may be seen at the studio of B. H- Bnrloot, corner of Carson and South Twentieth street. The work is attracting much atten tion of the artistic portion ot Southide so ciety. Mr. Burioot is rcallv one of Pitts burg's best artists, and a orilliant lutnre is promised. Mb. J. Elmer Salisbuet recently called in Paris on the well-known American artist, Henry Mosler. who is represented in the Luxembourg gallery by "The Prodigal Son." Mr. Mosler was Mr. Salisbury's teacher on his first arrival in Paris. Mr. Mosler is to contribute a picture in the near future to the Art Society's permanent callery. C s. Bkixhaut is represented at the retro spective exniuitionoi the Society of Ameri can Artist-, Xew York, by his large paint lug "Washed Ashore." which gained him a medal at tne Paris Universal Exposition of 1SH). The painting represents a oead body washed ashore wit:i a French gendarmes in all his official ivgalia taking notes from a crowd o ane-tricken peasants who dis covered the body. The American Artists' Association, 131 Boulevard Montparuasse, Paris, now num bers some 230 on its rotU. The association home includes a library, picture callery, reading room, concert hall, restaurant, etc. It gives monthly picture prizes, also holds lrcquent concerts and pictuie exhibitions. Among the collection are two ol interest to Americans, "The American Keliel Ship Leo Entering the Port of Odessa," and "Cheer ing the United States Flag" in one or the famine stricken kussian villages. These two painting have been offered by the artist to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. AMoxo the new pictures contributed re cently to the Art Society's permanent gal lery is a landscape by D. B. Walkley, a very finely executed pastel portrait of a young girl by E. A. Poole and a water color by Mr. Pezzoli. The thiee&uuerb European masters A Lion by Gerome. Cattle by Veruoeckhouen, and a land-cape by Conr bet, lately loaned to the exhibition by Mr. Charies Donnelly, are well worthy of a visit. The coming week there, will be added a great many new pictures by local artists. Mb. A. Bryan Wall has a fine autnmn landscape, with sheep, on exhibition at the Gillespie gallery. There is also on exhibi tion at this gallery a landscape by the French artist Peraine, and a collection of water colors by well-known Eastern artists. As the artist cannot paiut by artificial light last Monday and Tnesday were holl'lays tor members or the craft. As one of them said there was not daylight enough in any of the two days to paint a single brush stroke. If this sort of weather continues Pittsburg artists may have to emigrate in a body. Yasdtee.
