MASS MEETING TO BE CALLED To Protest Ji gainst Prink Being Furnished bj Employers. A COMMITTEE WILL INVESTIGATE. The ladies of the Allegheny county "W. C T. TT. protest agfilnst liquor being fur nished to ihe workmen in the Carnegie mills and they will first make sure that the firm is supplying liquor. Then they will trait upon the officials of the ompany and beg that the supply be discontinued. If their entreaties are unheeded they trill call a mass meeting to make a public protest The regular monthly meeting of the or ganization was held in the Smithfield Street Jtf. E. Church yesterday afternoon. The at tendance iras much larger than usual Mrs. B. H. Jones presided. After the prelimi nary exercises a statement was received from an afternoon newspaper referring to liquor bein; taken into the Carnegie mills at Homestead, Twenty-ninth and Thirty third streets. The publication conveyed the inference that the liquor was .furnished tbe workmen by officials ot tbe company. The reading of this statement created con siderable excitement among the members present Wanted to Call a Mass Meeting. Mrs. K. II Jones suggested the immediate calling ot a mass meeting of citizens to formally protest against the Carnegie's com pany's action. This proposition met with favor, but while it was being discussed some one incidentally remarked ttiat it might be well to investigate the truth of the publica tion. It was possible there might be a mis take somewhere. It was finally decided to appoint as a Committee ot Investigation Mrs. J. B. Hill, Mrs. Boney, Mrs. Bryce and Mrs. Jones. It the report is proven to be correct a mass meeting will be immediate ly called and a protest entered. "Why, only to-day, said .Mrs. jiryce, "a mother stopped me on the street and said her son had been led to drink at the Home stead mill through liquor being given to him free of charge." Mrs. James raid: "This is terrible and if we can place the responsibility for such work it will be a grand thine. We must go to the employers if they have sanc tioned it, and Jail on our knees and pray to them in the name of God to prevent its continuance. An Invitation to Violence. "We must see that the workmen are not given liquor at such a critical time. Vio lence enough has been already done and it sliould be checked and nut further invited by the crime of liquor being brought in as an auxiliary." A telegram was sent to Miss Frances "Willard, expressing the svmpathy of the county union upon the death ot her in other. An invitation was received asking the body to take part in the temperance field day at Itidgeview, August 24. As this e;vent is au open affair and all people are Welcome, do action was taken because the members of the union will attend indi vidually. It was decided to hold the Annual session of the body on the third tTuesdar of September in the Smithfield Street Church. Mrs. Getty gave an entertaining de scription of how she has been working among children and forming them into Loyal Legion bands. Worse Than a Lock-On'. The statement of Mr. J. "I am a cooper by trade, and for many rears worked in Chicaga About 12 months ajo I had an attack of diarrhoea, which be came chronic I was treated by two prom inent physicians of Chicago, but from them received no permanent benefit I then went to Texas, where I was again treated by a leading physician with results similar to those I had previously experienced. In May I came to AViekliffe, Ky., in a very debilitated condition, consequent upon this louc continued trouble. I went to a drug store lor relief. Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhcea Remedy was recom mended. . The tirt dose relieved me, and two 'Jj cent bottles cured me. I consider myself well toiay." Have you ever thought what you would do iu case you, or some one of your family, was taken with a severe attack of colic, cholera morbus, dysentery or diarrhoea. In such cases it is not unusual lor fatal re sults to follow before medicine can be pro cured or a physician summoned. There is nothing that will give permanent relief so quickly as Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy. It never (ails even in the most severe cases either for children or adults. The Amoskeag engine suit, which has been hanging fire in the courts for the past three years, will make another step in ad vance early in the September term. The master appointed by the Court to take testimony in the case, George P. Hamilton, has been away on a vacation for two weeks, and will not return until September 1. He has with him all the papers in this import ant case- While resting he is studying tbem over, and will have his report ready to file on his return. Tbe general expectation is that the an swer will be in the city's favor. In that case the antl-Amoskea; people, represented by H. EL Safford, of Allegheny, will file exceptions to the master's finding. The law allows ten days for the filing of excep tions to a master's report Alter that the Court fixes a dar for arguments on the ex ceptions. The Court then takes the papers and keeps them as long as the judge in the case desires. It is generally a long time. From the time already consumed on this esse it is not expected to he an exception. Meantime, the city Is going ahead with the building of an engine house for two new engines in the First ward. Chief Brown, who returned from his summer vacation yesterday, is preparing specifications for the engines therefor. They will be published in time that the new engines will nave been built and ready when the houses are, some time in October or the early of November. CAN CHOOSE HIS COUNTY. The ball entered above the right eyebrow and tore its way through the brain for four and one-half inches. Dough erty's other organs were in a healthy condi tion.
