THE- PITTSBURG DISPATCH, MONDAY JUNE 27. 1893. THE TRADE OUTLOOK. Prospects for Incoming Fruit Crop by no Means Bright HIDES AND CALFSKINS VERY DULL. Bulls Xow Find Few Crumbs of Comfort in Lines of Cereals. FOOTWEAR AS HEWED AT BOSTON . Office of The Dispatch, ) Pittsbuko, Saturday, June 25. ( Among the features of the week in prod uce lines has been the arrival of sweet potatoes and roasting ears from the far South. These arrivals were so premature that there was little demand. Home raised roasting ears rarely appear before the latter half of July. Old potatoes have become a thing of the past. The few still on sale are inferior in quality. New Southern potatoes ire in bountiful supply, and prices are steadily drifting to a lower level. "Water melons have declined fully 100 per cent in price since la&t Saturday. A week ago the price w as R5 00 to $40 fO per hundred. To-day the ran Ke is (15 00 to $20 00 per Hundred, and at the decline markets ate slow. The fruit prospects are not so good as thoy were a week or two ago. Cherries, plums, apples, nnd In fact everything In the fruit line throughout this section will be much below the yield of last yrar. From all sections oomes the same report. Tho poor nrospect for fruit has alreadv had the effect of stiffen ing prices in canned and dried fruit lines. Cerral Situation. It will be seen by reference to the home market column that receipts of grain and hay w ere create r this w eek than last to the extent of 90 carloads. Notwithstanding in creased receipts prices of corn, oats and bay have been on the advance, and markets are strong at higher prices than rnled a week ago. Wheat, flour and mill feed have shown -leakcning tendencies. The wheat bears have found good leverage in the improving prospects for the incoming crop. Bulls in cereal lines seem to be ill-fatod all this seas-on. As soon as prices advance.it iiat once demonstrated that there is abun dance in the land. A fair price brings last year's surplus to the front in a very short time. Hides and Calf Skins, Markets are dull and slow all along the line, notwithstanding the great reduction in prices. Allegheny tanners buy very spar ingly at the decline. Calfskins move some w hat more Ireely than they did a 'week ago, but pi ices Sail to advance. Sheepskins are about the onlr article on the list that man ages to hold their own. Tallow is dull as it alwav is throueli the heated term, owing to the difficulty of keeping it from wasting. Following are prices paid by tanners for stock delivered here: Croon steer hides, trimmed. 75 lbs and up Green steer hhlcs. trimmed. 60 to 75 lbs.... Green steer hides, trimmed, under CO lbs... Green cow hides, trimmed, all vreielit.... Green bull hides, trimmed, all weights... , Green calfskins. No. 1. .............. ........ Grvn calfskins. No. 2 ............ . Following is the Boston lleraVCt report of the outlook in lines of boot' and shoes: The leature in the boot and shoe market is the hurry the jobbers are In for the delivery of the goods they have bought of manufact urers. They are urging for deliveries of fall good with unnsual vigor for so' early in the seaon. Manufacturers say that the jobbers would evidently bo Dleased at the immediate delivery of all the goods they have bought for Jail, and they wish that thev were able todeliver them, lor bv this rneansagood volume of trade would be clinched. "It is inferred from the anxiety of the jobbers for the delivery or goods that they have sold more Ireely themselves than usual. Their salesmen have been on the road, and it is plain that they have met with a good demand. They have returned and reported their orders, and now manu facturers are an.vlous to deliver, the goods their salesmen have sold. They do not mean to lose trade, for tho reason that the goods cannot te delivered in season, as they have done other years. They mean to get all the trade possible off their hands early. The hnyersof boots and shoes do not seem to be taking much interest In the proposed and actual higher prices of leather. They will not pay any more for goods at present. They refuse to give duplicate orders where any advance is proposed by manufacturers. About the only encouraging featutc is the chance that the demand lor late duplicate orders win be good, from the fact that the Jobbers are in so much or a hnrrv lor the de livery ot the goods already ordered." There was a poor exense for a wheat market most of the session. The An advanco of 12c In lard for the day was the feature of the provision trade. The demand was remarkable from first to last and the offerings light. While pork and ribs wore a little active and higher, the ad vance -was not in keeping with lard, usually the slowest thing on the list. The receipts of hogs were light, which may have encour aged the buyers for the long account and caused someouying also for shorts. The leading futures ranged as follows, as cor rected by John M. New York, June 25. The stock market was tame this morning, the dullness being extreme. 'While the trading was corfflned almost entirely to the professional element, and while the tone was strong throughout, it was due wholly to the covering operations of the local operators. - Naturally the stocks which have been most under pressure for the last week were strongest to-day, and conspicuous .among them was Burlington, whloh was the-only stock which sucoeeded In reaching Ave fig ures in the amount of its transactions, and was tt)e only one In whloh the extreme fluctuation reached 1 per cent. As might be supposed, it led the list In strength and closed with a net gain of riper cent. The only other stock showing any approach to this was Lackawanna, which rose . . The rest df the list were, except Kock Isl and, New England, Atchison and St. Paul, intensely dull and almost stagnant, though sympathizing with tue leaaors in taeir up ward tendency. No feature of any kind marked the dealings, however, and the tam est session of the Stock Exchange In many weeks finally closed with a firm tone at the best prices, but intensely dull. Railroad bonds wore quiet, but, like stocks, were unusually barren of feature, and the only movement of the day of inter est was the decline in the Detroit, Maoki line and Maiquotte land grants of 1 per cent to IZ. The trading reached $516,000, of which the Atchison incomes, contributed $106,000. The following table shows the prices of active stocks on the New York Stock Exchange yester day. THE WEBS IN OIL, Prices Give Wav Under a Considerable Pressurn to,Sell. The market -was fairly steady early In the week. The decline in tbe latter b air was dne to considerable oil pressing for.sale and to the approach of switching time. The ad ditional fire loss added to the disgust of the longs. The field was practically tn statu quo, and had but little influenoe upon values. After the July deliveries Pittsburg will have con siderably less oil than a month ago, having sold heavily in the last ten days. Physicians of All Schools Have Been Interviewed. Boston Has a Registrar Long Service. of He Tells What the Weather Will Pro'duce. Will Multiply Infant Deaths Unless Care' Is Taken. Food. Babies cry and babies die for want of it. It Is good. .It Is wholesome. It Is the only preventive of cholera Infantum the physicians can find. It is lsctated food, say the physicians. It Is made in Burlington, Vt , under the direct supervision of no less a chemist than Prof. Boyn ton, of the.Vennont University. For want of it half a hundred Infants died In Boston the other week, a dozen of them from cholera infantum, Mr. Appolonlo has' been city registrar for 37 years, so says tbe Boston Globe He has been longer In the service than any regis trar In the country. He says that the not weather Is Just as sure to multiply the deaths of infants as the infants are to be born. Improper nourishment Is at the bottom of It. Therefore physicians of every school have recom mended lactated food. Thousanfis of mothers have testified to the fact that 11 has done what nothing else could do It has saved their little ones. No better evidence can be offered of superiority than the many Instances in which fretful, peevish and sleepless babies, as soon as put upon lactated food, sleep all night and wane uplaugblng. The happy change, physicians say, is solely due to the superior nourishing and eatlsfylngqualltles of this food. Tbe principal element of mother'smllk's Is sugar of milk. This Is tbe basis of lactated food. With it Is combined the nutritious elements of the great cereals, wheat and barley, so prepared as to be readily digested and assimilated. The addition of the salts found In mother's milk makes lactated food a perfect substitute. ' Many mothers write that nothing else would agree with their children. And so an article of food, invaluable for Infants and Invalids, has come to be made And In many a household it Is the only diet of the bright babe that's the pride of all the family. And the grand mother In her second childhood, maybe, weak and feeble unable to eat tho hearty food that Is set upon the table, enjoys this nutritive preparation, and lives like the other child, a happier and longer life because of It STEAMERS AND EXCURSIONS.
