THE PITTSBURG DISPATCH. THURSDAY, JUNE 2. 1892. 5, LESS THAN LAST YEAK. List of Business Tax Assessments Given to the Treasurer. THE FIR1IS THAT MAKE BIG HONEY. Carnegie's Trade Amounts to $7,000,'..'00 Annually. About EXORMOUS FIGURES FROM IRON MEN The assessments for busine? taxes were turned o er esterday by the City Assessors to tbe City Treasurer. The amou: t of taxes levied this year tails away below that of last year,' in iact, almost one-half less. The total' levy for 1892 is $118,678 52. Last Tear the net levy, after all exonerations and ad ditions had been made, was $269,275 50. The fact that tbe tax levy is less does not mean that the amount of business was less than in the year previous. While no com putation of the assessment has been made it is believed to be lar pi eater than hereto fore The falluis off in the gross amount of the tax is due to the changes made in the appropriation ordinance last February, n hen some of the business taxes were taken off and others were reduced. As UMial, Jones & Lausrhlins" at $5,000,- 000 lead the list. Joseph Home & Co. come next with $4,750,000. Carnesjie, l'hipps & Co. are assessed af$4,000,000, and Caruecie Bros. & Co. at $3,000,000. "The "Westinehouse Electric is next in the big class w ith $3,000,000. Below will be iound nil the asements by wards of firms doing 'x business of $100,000 or over. First Ward. Armstrong.
