BEMAIXS OF A MARTYRED TRIEST JTOCND IX A SWISS CHURCH. All That Is Mortal of Thii Sainted Father Brought to a Southside Church They Are to Be Inclosed In a Golden Shrine. The crumbling remains of St. Vincent, a Catholic saint who died a martyr's death in the sixteenth century, have been brought from their resting place in a little Swiss church to St. Peter's Church, on South Twenty-eighth street, where they will hereafter remain, an object of veneration to the faithful and a reminder to the Catholics of this community of the power ot religions conviction. l?ev. Father J, B. Duffncr, pastor ot St. Peter's, secured the sacred relic while in Europe last summer, and it came to him through Adams Express a few days ago inclosed in a small iron bound oaken chest. The saintly remains consist only of the bones of the martyr and a vial containing a few drops of his lite blood. Father Duffner during his trip to Europe visited a great many pilgrimages, and, among others, one at the town of Met tern. in Switzerland. round in a Crumbling Swigs Church. In the old church at Jrcttern he found the bones of St. Vincent, but, like a great many churches in the Old "World, there were evidences of decay and neglect by the government which maintains them, and Tathcr Duffner decided to bring the ven erable remains if he could secure them. He learned that the parish congre gation was very poor and unable to maintain the agreement under which the remains had been committed to its care. This was that a certain elaborate golden shrine should be erected in the church in which the bones of the departed saint should be expose'd. The congregation had been unable to provide the stipulated shrine since the sacred relic had come into their posesion in 1771. It had been de livered to them inclosed in the casket in which it still rests, but bound by a seal which they dared not break until the golden receptacle was prepared. Satisfying himself that the Mettern con gregation would probably never be able to carry out Us contract Father Duffncr appealed to the Bishop of the diocese of Solothurn for the privilege of removing the holy casket to America. The request wasgranted under condition that the seal on the casket be not broken until the St. Peter's Church carry out the conditions under which it had been given to the parish of Jlettern. This Sacred Relic Now in Pittsburg. The Southside priest gladly accepted the conditions and arranged at once for carrying them into effect. The casket arrived several days ago, and under the instructions of Bishop Solothurn, Father Dufferer sent for Bishop Phelan.'who broke the seal, opened the lid and examined the contents. They consisted of the crumbling bones, the vial of blood, before referred to, and a parch ment statement giving the lite history of St. Vincent. Father Duffner has alreadv ordered the golden shrine and will shortly expose the remains to view in the church, making the occasion a memorable one by appropriate public ceremonies.
