. Hi ft THE PITTSBURG DISPATCH. MONDAY DECEMBER 14, 1891. F Jl r PLANS OF THE MISERS. Ilea Wants McKinley to Make Him Labor Commissioner of Ohio. JI'MIDE MAY f AKE HIS PLACE. In TLat Case a Knight of Labor Will Be Chosen Secretary. INTERESTING INDUSTRIAL ' .FEATURES A special telegram received from Co lumbus says: Hon. John McBride, State Commissioner of Labor, and John P. Jones, President of the Ohio miners, left yesterday for Birmingham, Ala., to attend the annual nicetinj ot the American Federation of Labor. Messrs. McBride and Jone, to gether with John B. Bae, President of the TTnited Mine "Workers, arc delegates from the miners' organization, which is affiliated with the Federation. Mr. Rae has been in Tennessee, and will go from that State to Uirmingham. Hon. John McBride has been talked of as a likely successor to Samuel Gompers, the present head of the Federa tion. He stated to a Dispatch representa tive yesterday that he would not be a candi date, however, for the place. "Would you not accept it if tendered you?" was the query. "Well, if the convention would raise the salary to something like 52,500 a year and consent to the removal of the headquarters Jroni New York to Columbus I might." Ita VTanw to Be Xabor Commlsioner. Mr. McBride's term as .Labor Commis sioner will expire next spring, and his suc cessor will be a Republican. There are alreadv a large number of candidates for the place, among them John B. Bae, President of the United Mine "Workers Mr. Kae de clared himself for McKinlev during the late campaign, and it is now claimed his influ ence with the miners was largely instru mental in his election. It is understood Mr. Bae will make a contest for this place, and that Hon. John McBride will be put forth as a candidate for President of the United Mine "Workers. This is a plan that has been sprung l'v some of Mr. McBride's friends and they say that if ho Is not in harmony with if the p'ace will be forced upon him, nnvnj". In e ent of Mr McBride beini? urged for the j.laee ooth r H Pennaand John P. Jones, who hive been mentioned as candidates. will step aside The selection of an old Pro gressive Union man for President or the United Mine Worker would make the elec tion of a Knight or Labor for Secretarv in order This would be just the opportunity desired bv VT B. Wilson, who is looking alter his fence in event of a contest. Mr. Wilson is an old leader among the Knights. ItrafeonH Tor a Change or Date An effort has been made to have the con Tcntion of the Ohio miners, which convenes regularly in January, postponed to April. At the request of certain persons the matter has been submitted to the miners and a vote is now being taken on the question. The claim made by those favonag a postpone ment of the convention is that any action tuhen on tlio scale in January would bd- prise the operators of the miner's intentions ana thereby place the men at a disadvant age. It isasseitedby some that the defeat last spring was due to the fact that the operators had sufllcient time to anticipate the action of the minors President Jones satlie convention will be cal'ed in January, as the vote will not be completed before the time for issuing the car He sar that about nine tenths of the miners are in favor of the postponement, as tae holding of th convention in April would snealaige expense to the local organiza tions and -would probably accomplish as much good AAYVOONNMMOOKKEE. The leading new manufacturing town on line of "West Penn B. E.. near Pittsburg. Already nearly 100 houses are up and in course of erection. An extensive bottle and prescription ware company has secured seven acres and will build works at once. A large glass house now in full running order. An excellent machine shop and foundry, almost completed, and will be in operation in a few davs. A fine brick works, planing mill and lum ber vard now on the grounds. Also a good hotel, stores and postoffice; public school and churches secured, natural gas and fire clay. The growth and stability of the town, and employment for hundreds and thousands ot mechanics and others, is assured beyond a doubt, by reason of the extensive manu facturing plants now located, with others negotiating for position. Those who have seen Avonmore pronounce it the gem of manufacturing towns. The lots are large and eclipse all other places in lowness of price. The figures have been kept down to lrom 250 to $500 a lot These prices now for choice lots being low, this is the time to buv to secure the benefit of increase in value. Purchasers will almost double their money invested. Plans and full information from J. J. Hol- lister, A-vonmore, Pa., or Jas. "W. Drape & Co., Agents, 313 Wood street, Pittsburg.
