Believed to Have Eeen Swindled by His Gambler Tatrons. CONSCIENCE MOXET EETURXED BY ONE The mystery of youns Frank Doyle's sui cide increases with investigation. Mr. Doyle's father, who is a prominent insur ance man in Cleveland, returned home jes terday after making inquiries among his son's associates, and has come to the con clusion th3t some deep plot was the cause that led to the rash act. Attorney Marron is ihe administrator of the young man's estate. It has been discovered that he with several others had been running a bucket shop in one of the upstairs rooms at 411 Smithfield street. The place was well patronized and claimed to have a 'Western Union wire. It has been closed since Dovle's suicide, and his associates, whoever they w ere, have remained strangely silent. K-pt a Diary 'Written in Cipher. All efforts to get trace of them have failed, and in order, if possible, to find out how the business was conducted, a cipher diary, which was found in Doyle's possession, has been sent to Xew York experts for transla tion. Doyle was a short-hand writer, and the diary was kept in a system adopted by himself. As as stated in Tin? Dispatch the day after the suicide, Dovle was a medical graduate and an expert electrician. He Jormerlv was interested with George Carter in an electrical store at 12o Filth avenue, but last August he disposed of his interest to his partner in order to go into the bucket shop business. lie had previously been a heavy dealer while the place was run by "Wilson and later on when Alexander was proprietor. The place was purchased from Alexander, and since Doyle took charge was doing a good business. It was the rendez vous ot that class of gamblers who have little money and hope to get a stake ahead for the more exciting games. A lew clerks patronized it and the others were chronic loafers. lle:lc-d to Hate Heen in Debt. When Dole went into the business he had about S2.000, but when he died nothing could be found but notes aggreiating be tween 5000 and JSOO. The opinion is held that he was cheated out of his money and also got in debt to his gambler friends who patronized the bucket shop. The latter class refuse to talk, but it is believed all information will be got out ot the.diary. Since the suicide the people whohave patronized Doyle's place have been worked into a fever of excitement over the fact that an investigation i- to be made. Like all gamblers they are superstitious and one of tnem became so badly lrightcned that he took some moner to Attorncv !Marron and confessed that he had got it from Dovle in a dishonest way. He said his conscience troubled him and he wanted to return it. OLD age besins nt fortj-fivp nowadays, according to an eminent phjFiclan See tho Iwent-iage Issue of TiiK DISPATCH to morrow.
