"fwwr- 8 THEPITTSBimGDISPATCBTMONDAT 1 THE BIG SOUTHWEST. McDonald's Great Production In creases the General Output. SOME SOLID FACTS AXD FIGURES. Glorious Gushers YLicli AYere Drilled to the Paj Saturday. eoftiiwest m-cukdy rrvODUCtR The sreat and only feature of Hie oil country for the past month is the McDon ald field. It is the principal and, in fact, the only territory which can properly bs classed in the southwest district. Its pro duction has jumped from 13,890 barrels per day, -which, vas the average for last month, to 47,505 barrels, -which is the average for the month of October. There arc 30 dry holes reported for October, which is an increase of four over the number reported for Sep tember. The number of completed wells, howccr, falls short of those which were drilled through the filth sand in September. In October there were only 125 wells finished, -while in September there were 109. The entire new production for the month of October vas 49.37S barrels, while in September it was only 17.92G barrels, or an increase of 31,432 barrels. There are at present 274 wells drilling in the southwest against 277 in September. This, however, is offset by 157 rigs to 73 in September, more than twic; the number of the month previous. There has been a decrease of work in the upper country fields hich has decreased the total amount or work in nil of the fields combined. The average production of the completed wells in the southwest, minus the drv holes, has been 380 barrels, against 123 barrels to a well in September. Everything tends to show that October was the greatest month in the oil business, es pecially in the southwest district, and there arc onrush wells due within the next two weeks to lead to the belief that the pro duction may co higher than it has at any time yet. The gieat feature of the field yesterday was Patterson & Jones' No. 2, on the Kelso farm, which was making 400 bar trtls au hour, or over 9,000 barrels a dav Saturdav. It is located in the south west McCurdy field, and stands alone, at least half a mile from any other well The No. 3 Kelso of the same parties is due next week. It is located COO feet east of No. 2. Gnffev, Murphy & Galey's No. 2 on the Sam Sturgeon farm came in late Saturday night and is doing nearly 330 barrels a day Few & Emerson's No. l,on the Miller farm, is throueh the sand and dry. Their No. 3 on the McDonald property is doing 130 bar rels a day. Mellon & Cc's No. 1, on the Mertz, is a light well. Gardinicr & Co'a. No. 2, on the Mertz, is doing about 50 bar rels a day. The Hopper No. 1, of the Oak dale Oil Co., will make about 400 barreh a dav and their 'Wallace No. 1 is drilling in the fand and showing for 600 barrels a day. The Forest Oil Company's No. 3 Shaffer "is doing about 25 barrels an hour. Their No. 1 Etta Glenn will be in early this morning. The runs from the McDonald field vester dav were 60,892.10 barrels.
