TEE pnTEBUES DISPATCH WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 14, 1891. A "COUPLE OF SPOOKS Stalk About the Confines of Windsor Park These Eights. A COLORED MAX SEES OXE GIIOST, 'And the Whites of His Eyes Turn Black Through Fear of the Specter. STKAXGE DEATHS IX THE VICIXITT Tlic gliot walks in "Windsor Park these nights, it is numerously saiil, and some people who are required to pass the park after nightfall feel sort of eerie and walk very rapidly. Windsor Tark has been a favorite resort this season and its proximity to AVeot Dell erne has been somewhat an soyin? to some citizens who do not care for picnics, especially those at which beer is Mild, or attendants carry pocket pistols, so some of the people down there are railier inclined to rejoice that a disembodied spirit lias become the guardian anjel of the park, its presence having a tendency to calm some nnrulv spirits in the flesh. GHOSTS THAT ARE WLLCOMr. The people sjy the rain has fallen on tlie just and the unjust in the park, and the shades of niirlit have lallcn on a consider able proportion of the tough clement that i-ometimcs makes nisilit hideous which ex plans why they, the quiet people, like ghosts for a chance. The genesis of this spook, or the-c spooks theie are supposed to be a pair of them is not ileiinitelv knoun. Some time ago Patrick Manning fell out of bed and was inyMcriously killed, and the dead body of another man was found in the vicinity of the park and some 'Spiritualists" down that way draw conclusions from these facts. It is said that a number of people have felt the brush of spectral pinions and have ex perienced rfrnngcsho-tly sensations toward the small hours ot the mornincbut only one person lias had ocular iroof of a supernatur al visitation. This person is a colored man in the employ of a gentleman named Jtrad ley. A few nights since lie, while walking through the park, experienced a queer sen eatiou. which grew on him until he became thoroughly frightened, and looking back he stw a .pccter of horrid mien stealthily and silently gliding behind him. rsr.AT the ghost's time. The man quickened his pace and so did the specter. His lengthened chin, bis turned-up snout, Ills eldritch squeel and gestures were horrifying, and the colored man was so frightened that the whites of his eyes turned black, so that onlv a chost could see him; but it could, and while it did not seize him, it kept close to him and did not show the hydrophobic fear that possessed the witches that pursued Tam O'bhantcr, but glided over rivulets as unconcernedly as oier the arid ground. The condition of the colored man since then is said to be extremely pitable. No sooner is the sable pall of night sjiread o'er the earth than his distempered vision peo ples earth, air and sky with "ghosesses" innumerable. No sooner does he fall asleep than a spirit passes before his face and the hair of his flesh stands up. It is true there are some people w ho have sufficient bravery at high noon to attempt to cast doubts as to the veritableness of the apparition, but some of those would-be scoliers are noticed to be more respectful at night, when they show a, disinclination to discuss the subject, MEETINGS) AND NOTICES.
