SHeavy Share of the Old Bonds Tlaced Out at Two Ter Cent. vCALL OF THE FLVAXCIAL SECRETARY TEPECTAL TELEGKAM TO TIIE DISrATCH. Washington, Sept. 2. The Secretary of the Treasury to-day issued the following circular in regard to the continuance of the A.y$ per cent bonds: "Public notice is hereby given that the time within which the bonds of the ii per cent denomination will be received at the office of the Secretary of the Treasury for continuance with interest at the rate of 2 per cent per annum has been extended until further no tice and the circular of July 2, 1891, under which said bonds have heretofore been re ceived for continuance, is modified accord ingly. The interest at 4 per cent on all tne bonds of said loan will cease this day, in accordance with the terms of the circular of June 2, 1891, but bonds presented for con tinuance under this circular will bear in terest at the rate of 2 per cent per annum from September 2, 1891. Secretary Foster said this afternoon that the extension of time for continuance of 4 per cent bonds is made because of tuefactde- eloped by correspondence that some hold ers of the'bonds, tlirouch ab-ence or other causes, have been unable to present them for continuance -n ithin the time specified iu tho former circular Theamountof ty per cent bonds contin ued at 2 per cent to-day is $113,450, making the total continued under tho circular of July 2, $23,554,000. Of these bonds $3 546,900 were held by individuals and $20,007,100 w ere held bv national bants as a bisis of circula tion. There are still $LSS0,6M i per cent bonds held by about 50 national banks to se cure their circulation, nearly all of which will probably be presented for continuance at 2 per cent, because being now "non-interest bearing bonds" they are no longer avail able as security for national bank circula tion and the amount they represent will have to be reduced accordingly. The total amount of i per cent bonds presented for redemption to aate is $6,4i,uU Tnis includes all bonds received at the Treasury up to tho close of business to-day, amounting to $3,9SG,700, and all that have been received at the New York Sub-Treasury up to 2 o'clock this afternoon, agjrrepat ina SiWUXX). They will be redeemed in gold, if gold is demanded, as soon as the de partment finds that the proper requirements have been complied itb. There are $20,500,003 4 per cents outstand ing, in addition to those otherwise dis posed of as above stated. PRODUCTION G0IXG UP. THE ELLIOTT FARM WELL IS DOING 40 BARRELS AN HOUR.
