?. GRANDER THAN EYER "Will Be the Opening of Pittsburg's Exposition To-Night. MSI NEW DELIGHTS PROMISED. Decorations and Trimmings Far Ahead of Previous Efforts. THE SEVENTH EEGIMEST BAND ON HAND The third Exposition of Pittsourg will open this evening at S o'clock. It is need less to say that the Exposition will be more extensive than ever, because the prepara tions have been on such a wholesale scale that there could be no. other result There will be many new exhibits, besides the old ones, and the halls will have accommoda tions for them alLManager Johnston hasbeen a very busy man for some months and he prides himlf on the results of his labors. The public is taking more interest in the Exposition this year than ever before, and the expectation is that the immense build ings will be crowded this evening, when the electric lights are in full glow, and the beautiful decorations show under them for the benefit of the thousands of visitors. It is noticeable that the decorations nre very handsome and in excellent taste. Great attention has been paid to harmoniz ing the colors. Thus the glassware exhibit of one prominent firm .is draped in pale green, yielding a very graceful effect. Other stands have colors in drapery that hannoni7e with the contents. The main hall presents a perfectly fairy-like appear ance, e en by daylight. "What it will be like to-night uitli all the immense arc lights adding brilliance to the scene, can be conjectured. WHERE COST WAS SOT COrrjtTED. A great deal of work has been spent on decoration by the various exhibitors. Each has vied with the others to get the best, and there is no cheap or tawdry work to be seen anywhere. The hangings, etc, have been carefully selected, and generally would not be out of place in a handsome private parlor. The exhibitors feel that the credit of the city is at stake, and they are not disposed to lessen it by considerations of dollars and cents, when a free expendi ture can give good results. Tiie rjamtmsr. rioiismnjr ana ruoDinfftuai must continue up to the last moment in so large a building as the Exposition Is still going on, ana will not cease until tne uoors are ready to be thrown open, and perhaps not even then. Prof. Cappais ready with his band. He lias been rehearsing "his ninstciani assidu ously, and it is certain that n very enjoyable ennpflrt Trill bn irivfln this evenlnir. as well as evcrv other evening during the 40 days of .the Exposition. In the Art Oallerv the pictures have bean carefully hung, and It is expected that the visitors will be surprised as well as de lighted when they pee the gems gathered for their delectation this year. In Mechanical Hall the samobusvprepara tion has been going on. There will be a great turning of wheels there to-night, and many Interesting processes will be seen in full operation. "Altogether the indications are for the most interesting as well ns cred itable Exposition that Fittsbursr ever had. cappa's famous band aebives. Cailo Alberto Cappa, with his famous Sev enth Eegimont band, arrived in this city yesterday afternoon to fulfil his engage ment of six weeks at the Exposition. Sir. Cappa, Walter Rogers, the noted cornetist, and other leading members of the organiza tion, aro quartered at the Anderson. The full band is composed of 05 pioces, 43 of the best of whom nre here. Their engage ment at the Exposition will last until tho close, October 17. During this time they will give concerts every day lrotn 3 to 3 o'clock, from 4 to 5, from 7 to 8 and from 9 to 10 p. M., except ou Saturdays, when they play until 10:30. The regular programmes i ill include miscellaneous selections, both popular and classical, hut on Friday evenings nothing hut classic music will be rendered. It Is pro posed also to render a number of "request programmes" before the close. Complete proirrammos for the entire series ofconcerts have been arranged, and no two are alike. The band came here from Baltimore, where It played on Monday for the tailors' demonstration. Aftor completing its en gagement here It will go to Cleveland for a series of concerts in Music HalL Prof. Cappa lias not been in Pittsburg since 1S75, when he appeared with Theodore Thomas orchestra. He says he sees so manychanges in Pittsburg that he would not recognize from his former acquaintance with the place. He modestly declines to praise his own organization, though he could not help saving that he regarded Rogers as the great est cornet player in the world. The follow mg Is the opening programme, which commences at 7 o'clock this evening: PAET I. 1. Overture Bleail,. Wagner 2. Grand Selection. ..Lucia UlL&mxnennoor.... Donizetti 5. Cornet solo .
