vmsmz maE&a 8 " '' ' : ' THE- . PITTSBURG DISPATCH, TUESDAY, JULY 28,' 1891 SUSTAINED THE VETO. ttho Police Disability Ordinance Finally l'ut Out or the Way Another One in IMOerent Shape to Follow Shortly Some Small Business Done. Select Council met yesterday afternoon to consider Mayor Gourley's veto of the police disability ordinance. In order to bring the fcuitter up for action Mr. Keating moved that the ordinance he passed notwithstand ing the objections of tho Mayor. President Tord then put tho motion, '"Shall the ordi nance bo passed notwithstanding the Mayor's veto?" On the call of tho roll 22 members voted in the negative and none in the affirmative and the ordinance was declared not passed. Mr. Collins, of the Thirty-fourth ward, voted nye, but afterward changed his vote, claim ing it had been made under a misappre hension. On the call of tho wards the following were presented and properly referred: Or dinances for sewers on Hampton. Howe. Fifth avenue, Frankstown avenue, Forbes street. Turret street, Itcnfrew street, Old run, Ella street, Shakespeare street and Jlcntz alley. Mr. Kobcrts-on presented in blank an ordi nance providing for the creation and dis tribution of a fund for the care, maintenaucc and relief of aged or disabled policemen, which was referred to the Finance Commit tee. This ordinance will be fl'led out before the committee meets to act on it. The new ordinance ill provide lor about the same relief features as the vetoed measure and is intended to accomplish a similar end. The method of securing money for this purpose ill be altered io as not to conflict 1th any proMsion ofHhe law such as tho Mayor cited m hi message. It is understood that the now bill will authorize the annual appropriation of a certain sum of money for police relief pur poses. The fund, like others of the city, will be in charge of the regular officials. If this is done there ill be no disability fund until utter tho passage ot the annual appropria tion ordinance at the beginning of the next fiscal year. The "ordinance authorizing tho Mayor to file bonds of indemnity, on behalf of the city, in any Common Fleas Court, in cases of condemnation or appropriation of prop ertj lorcitj purpose- was then taken upand ji:is-eu unaiiy. .a nuiuDcr 01 contracts 01 the Department of Fublic Works were ap proved.
