WOKE OF REBriLDIXG TO BEGIN AT ONCE For the third time within ten days Jones & Laupklin's Iron Works were vi;itod by lire, and this time the bridge works or structural department, nnd the straightening, shear and roll houses -wore entirely consumed, at a loss of $50,000, the amount of insurance being $43,000. Last week there were two small liix's, but little damago -was done The com pany is not going to -wait long until it -will be ready to start again, as men -ero put to work yetcrday, almo.t before the ruins wero cold, removing tho debris preparatory to tho erection of a new iron structure. Tho Arm Jus numerous large orders on hand which must be tilled. Tho four departments which, were burned were under a one-story tramc roof. 250x200 feet. The fire originated in the straighten ing shop, which is located at tho foot of South Twenty-sixth street, facing the 3Io nongahela river. A spark from a steam saw used in cutting iron flow into a pile of wastes and refuse, and in a moment the llames leaped up the sides of the building to tho roof. A -trong wind wa blowing, and al most immediately the entire bunding was enveloped m flames. The light, inflammable Iranie a hich composed it burned like a fur nace for an hour. An alarm was sent in from box 137. and on the arrival ot thiol Stewart he sent in a call Jor U o additional districts. The lire was so rapid, however, that the whole plant was a sheet of flame belore the first encine ar rived. The Are department did cuective work and kept it conllned to the one build in:;, though the flames uoro intense enough to boil the tar out of a roof 50 feet away. The direction ot the wind, too, was favorable, and blew aero-, the river aniiy fro'm tho mills. Iu-idc of an hour all danger lrom a spread of the flame was past, but the de partments named tvere completely ruined. The mot serious losj occurred in tho structural shop or bridge works. An addi tion to that plant had been made only a lew monins ago, ami -none was uciug pusnea in the department both night and day. About IM) men w ere employed there, and some very valuable machinery used, cutting, dressing and niiKing machines, lathes and planers and riveting apparatus. There were 1 hy draulic and 3 steam engines and 17 different pieces- of flue niachiner, the estimated cost if which is put at $75,0(W. Many of them can be repaired and will not be totally lost. A number of orders wcio about linishedor in coulee of completion, one of them an en tire floor of the new Masonic Temple now beinc built in Chicago. It was Just com pleted and shipments on it were to have been wnnmenced yesterday afternoon. Tho plant was to have turned out all of that work, hav inc taken the contract off the hands of tho defunct Columbia Iron and Steel Company. "Work had already begun on all floors from the sixth to the eighteenth, tho one de stroyed being the fifth. Another orderabout completed was a large ono lor the Lessig Hi idge and Iron Company, of Chicago. The other .serious loss might bo said to bavc occurred in tho straightening shed, where tons of finished I beams wero warpocl and sprung by the intense heat, all of which will have to be dressed over. In tho roll house about 100 rolls wore similarly affected and will have to he redressed. Javne's Small Sugar Coated Sanative Pills. SAVE TOITK BENTS FROM FIRE, ro It by Insuring Your Hentuls Against Loss by That Cause. The forms of insurance against losses of all kinds arc almost as numerous as the causes of those losses. One of the latest, and one which it would seem should appeal Ftronglv to owners of large tenement and business properties, is that of securing such owners against loss of their rentals in case t2iose properties should be destroyed by fire. James W. Arrott, the insurance agent at S3."? Wood street, insures rentals. That this form of security, or indemnity, is not more extensively known and used is because it is new. Ilcnt insurance is indemnity for the per son insured against ilie atuaf loss of rents on buildings rendered partly or wholly un tenantable by fires. To executors, adminis trators, guardians, trustees, and all whose incomes are derived from the rental of buildings, its value is unquestioned, and no better outlay can be made than the moder ate sum needed to insure the rent roll. The insurancecompanypavbtherentalsuntil the-building is repaired, or rebuilt, aud made tenantable In case the owners decide not to rebuild, the insurance company pays rents for the time which would lie needed to rebuild. The Gcruuuia Hank building at the cor ner of "Wood and Diamond streets, recently nearly destroyed by lire and rendered totally untenantable, had its rentals insured in thfs way, and now its owners go on receiving the same income from its rentals that they did before the lire. There have been several destructive fires in the city recently, and loss of rentals illicit have been averted by all destroyed buildings, partly or wholly occupied by tenants, by paying the com paratively trifling cost of the insurance, 5lr. Arrott, while making a specialty of this class of insurance, does not neglect any of the old-line policies, and represents the best foreign and American insurance companies. If you desire insurance on this or other property of any kind and will send a postal card to J. W. Arrottj 533 "Wood st, he will send his representative to see you, thus sav ing you any trouble. Money for the Fourth of July Celebration The Fond Is Now Over JTour Hundred DollarsThere Is a Pressing Seed for More Shekels at Once. Theflrstmoney subscription fortho Fourth of July celebration came in yesterday, and now that the ball has been started rolling, the shekels aro looked for in good numbers. The first patriotic citizen to go down into his pocket for tho benefit of the demonstration was Superintendent Murray Vemer of the Rirmlngham Traction Company. Yesterday afternoon he handed Mayor Gourley $30, with tho proposition to double the amount if necessary. This was a personal donation and had nothing to do with the company. A lew moments later tho Mayor received a check for $25 from a well-known attorney, who requested to have his name kept secret. He also offered to double his gift if enough moncv is not secured from other sources. A balance of about $330 remained after last year's celebration, having come in too late to be used. This, with yesterday's contribu tions, brings the present fund up to $423. A number of wealthy gentlemen of tho city have signified their Intention of subscribing, and, with tho aid of the circulars to be sent to tho banks and merchants to-day the Mayor confidently expects the fund to reach the $3,000 mark within another week. Ho savs $3,000 must bo raised at tho very least nnd hopes intending contributors will send in thoir chocks or money to him at once. Money must be had before the arrangements for the event can bo carried forward. It is the intention to have three or four bands, tho best that con bo secured. It is Srobable that tho Great Western, tho Cathe rol and the Grand Army Bands will be en gaged, and possibly another. Tho Grand Army Band, through its manager, Charles Hart, yesterday sent in a bid offering to play on the Fourth of July for $8 per man and to furnish from 30 to 36 men at that price. Tho Great Western and Cathedral Bands have not submitted their rates, but have been requested to do so nnd not make othor en gagements for that date. The Mayor has received a lettor from ICathel Kerr, who had chargo of the athletic sports at Schenlcy Fark last Fourth of July. Mr. Kerr is in Sew York, but ho offers to come on two weeks prior to the Fourth and take chargo of tho sports at a figure that will probably be accepted, unless some local athlete of experience and good reputation will come forward and take hold of tho mat ter.
