8 THE PITTSBURG- 'DISPATCH, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1, 1891. WOEK OF THE MOiNTE. An Increase in the Production of Petroleum, But Quite A DECKEASE OP COMPLETED WELLS. Bjmptoms of Drainage Shown Bj the Eeport, Taken as a Whole. TACTS AND FIGURES OP THE FIELDS A comprehensive and careful review of the field situation for the month just closed clearly indicates a healthy condition of the industry. In the natural wayof looking at the trade better prices should prevail, but it is claimed that foreign competition bas largely become a factor in establishing Amer ican prices. If this is true, then tbe less drill ing that is done in this country for some time to come will most likely bring the prodncer a higher price for bis product. Whether the In fluence upon the market is real or artificial ire Mill not now stop to discuss. Tbe condition of affairs at home is tbe subject at hand. It must be admitted on all sides that as f af as ter ritory is concerned there is nothing hie in view. ana another Wildwood and Hnndredfoot may be a lone time on the road. It is a singular fact at tbe present writing that the field situa tion is not characterized in any quarter by a gnsherot any magnitude. It is also & signifi cant fact that there is not one pool or field in tbe great oil domain but what lias passed its zenith and is now retrograding. "Wildwood, like Thorn Creek. will soon take its place in history .The 100-foot on longer ranks as a second Bradford, while McCurdy has so far failed to meet the expecta tions of the most sanguine. There is a general inclination in most every section to use glycerine, and it is mainly dne to this potent influence that the high rate of pro duction is maintained. That new fields and pools are likely to be discovered at any time is not at all improbable, from the fact tbat there are many experimental wells now drill ing. While the foregoing is correct, tbe volume of operation and production was over the month of February. The summary of tbe operations of the entire field shows a decrease of 31 completed wells, and increased produc tion of 1,133 barrels. Following are tbe figures which tell tbe story: Completed Wells.
