One of Them Tells tho Court the Secrets of His Business, Tbe suit of Ira B. Duncan against IT. C. Frick and A. W. and K. D. Mellon, composing the firm of A. Overboil Co., distillers, is on trial before Judge Collier. The suit is an ac tion to recover salary as manager of tbe con cern, Mr. Duncan having been discharged. He claimed a balance of salary was due hiin under an agreement. Mr. Duncan, in specifying bis duties, said that one was "attending to trade." It consisted of going out "to see a man and talk him helpless, make him smoke cigars that he duesu't want, and drink wine that be doesn't care for, and bore him a dav, or a week, if nec essary, and bore yourself as well, until finally, j list to get rid of you, he gives you an order." .Mr. Duncan denied, further, tbat he ever got drunk. Common Pleas Court No. 2 Argu ment list. "In my practice among children I have had more and better success with Mellin's Food than with any and all others," is the testimony of a prominent physician. Ia Grippe. No healthy person need fear any danger ous consequences from this disease if prop erly treatel. It is much the same as a very severe cold, no more dangerous and requires precisely the same treatment. There were many deaths irom it during the winter of 1889 and 1890, hut not prob ably more than there would have been had the same vast number of persons contracted very severe colds. Man; of those who suc cumbed to the disease had weak lungs, or were otherwise physically weak and their svstems not strong enough to withstand the disease. A still greater number were not properly treated or neglected to use the very necessary precautions to avoid a relapse. AVe wish it plainly understood, however, that, no matter how strong or healthy a per son may be, they cannot reasonably hope for a complete recovery unless proper care is used to avoid exposure, especially when recovering from the disease, and the right treatment is adopted. THE BEST TREATMENT TOR LA. GBIPPE Kemain quietly at home until all symp toms of the disease disappear, and then when you go out have the body well clothed and the leet well protected, so that they will re main dry and warm. Take Chamberlain's Cough Remedy as directed for a severe cold. If freely taken as soon as the first symptoms of the disease appear, it will greatly lessen the severity of the attack, and its continued use will pre vent dangerous consequences, provided, ot course, that reasonably good care be taken of the general system and to avoid ex posure. Keep the'bowels regular. Fever usually causes constipation, the bowels are almost certain to become constipated, and if al lowed to remain so would make the fever much worse and the headache much more severe. It is of much importance that they move once each day. If only slightly con stipated one or two of St. Patrick's" Pills, taken at bedtime, will insure an operation the next morning, but if badly constipated three or four would be required. They pro duce a mild and pleasant cathartic effect. Avoid large doses of active cathartics, as they would weaken the system just when strength and vigor are most needed. Take quinine, in doses of two or three grains each tour times a day, as soon as tbe feeling of weakness or prostration appears. It will help to keep up the vitality and en able the system to withstand the attack. For pain in the chest, which is very apt to appear, saturate a flannel cloth with Chamberlain's Pain Balm and bind it over the seat of pain. It will relieve the pain and perhaps prevent pneumonia. An even temperature as possible should be maintained, as seemingly slight changes of the temperature of the room would aggra vate the disease, if not cause a relapse. This treatment was followed by manv thousands of persons and families" during tbe winter ot 1889 and 1890, and was'uni formly successful. It greatly lessened the severity of the attack and prevented pneu monia or other dangerous consequences. While: ;msny thousands we know were cured by it, we have yet to learn of a single case treated in this way tbat resulted fatal ly. The great value of Chamberlain's Cough .Remedy in tbe treatment of influ enza or the grip was fully proven, and it made that remedy immensely popular, and undoubtedly saved the lives of a vast nnm r of persons. wsu Yov can find your friends' new addresses in the removal column on .the third ps.gr. of to-day' Dispatch. iwr ' ) THE TWO CENTS A POUND Saved, to Housekeepers by Pnrcliasing Snar Just Ont of Bond. A COMBINE MAI MAKE IT DEAKEE, Cat It Is ixpccttd to Sell a Mttle Cheaper for Awhile at Least. POLL- TIME FOKEKTAII.BRS TO STOCK DP Though sugar dealers have been impa tiently awaiting April 1 to fill their con tracts, it is more than likely the immense rush spoken of in cities East and "West is somewhat in imagination. The market is about bare everywhere, as the demand for March delivery was very light. The duty went off at 12 o'clock last night, but so far as stores opening at that hour to distribute saccharinity is concerned, the opening went by default, so far as is known, in this city, most houses opening at the usual hour. H. P. Dil worth estimates tbat about 1J.0U0 barrels will be distributed to-day in these two cities, country orders coming later. Notwithstanding efforts to unload, sugar deal ers, and especially tbe trust, were overbur dened and did all they could to get rid ot stocks before to-day to save a loss of 2 cents. It is said the sugar combine has decided on a plan to meet the exigency. It is to export tbe surplus and get tbe drawback, about 2$ cents a pound, on exported sugar, and then bring it back. Ibis will cover its shorts as the extra drawback will pay the cost of export and re turn. Tbe situation is not as pleaoant as Canadian refiners would wish. Canadian importers can buy in this country, pay the Canadian duty and undersell the Canadian refiner. It is reported from San Francisco tbat Have meerandClaus Spreckels x Sons have ar ranged a funeral for their hatchet and that consumers will be the mourners. It is reported tbat tbe basis of tbe obsequies is tbat the Spreckels will retire from Philadelphia and confine their sales to the territory west of the Rocky Mountains, and that war will no longer distract the rival houses. As a consequence it is freely predicted that, while the reduction of tariff will make sugar cheap for a time, the heavy operators' combine will not only wipe out present cheapness, nut make sugar dearer than before April 1. Of course this is in the future and these predictions may or may not be realized. There was no flurry last night, as some peo ple anticipated there w ould be. At tbe Custom House it was stated that there was no unusual commotion, and tbat there were but 16,000 or 17,000 bushels in band at this port. Of course there bas been plenty of time to discount and take in sail. As to candy, the situation is unruffled. Rev mer & Bros, state tbat the matter has been dis counted for some time tbat, in fact, it has been a necessity that it should be In order to protect middlemen in tbe trade, and that candies are now, and have been lor some time, selling as low as they will under the reduced duty. Piillip Reymer stated tbat the cheapening of sugar would not have anj effect on the purity of candy. All manufacturers of note have for years set their faces like flint against adulter ation, and bave assisted in the passage ot laws against it, and a maker convicted of using terra alba in the making of candy might as well go out of business at once, as bis trade would be ruined, and in this State be coula not even col lect on sales already made. Mr. Reymer said the candy trade had been affected already as much by the duty reduction as it would be. Taken all in all, the new regulations will go into effect without any further complications, save tbat we will get sugar two cents a pound cheaper for a time, possibly for a considerable period, unless the alleged Haveme er-mreckels combine shall be powerful enuugli to wipe out tbe beet-augaricfaut Industry in the illimitable West.
