? 3 '! THE PEDTSBUEG ' .DISPATCH, SATURDAY, MARCH " 28, 189L THE EASTER STORM Responsible for a Continuance of tbe Long Siege of the Grip. KO DISEASE IS BETTER KASIED. A Knmber of the Worst Cases That Were Eeported lesterday. HAXI SDFFEEKKS ODT IN THE COUKTEI If almost any man or woman of ordinary acquirements and common sense who has lived Ions enough to know that when it really rains it pours, has had tbe crip, he or she knows that it is appropriately named. It could not be more appropriately desig naied by the most accomplished philologist in the world. It grips you as effectually as did St. Ernulphus' curse, Tide Tristram Shandy. If your weak point is a corn, that excrescence will burn during King Influ enza's reign with an intensity that only a cloistered monk, or Dante, could describe. A weak tooth will assume dimensions only circumscribed by the dimensions of your month, and rheumatism takes absolute possession of all departments mental and physical. The sun's rays on "Wednesday and Thurs day were delusive, though they were a miti gation. When Mr. Moran, the contractor, was told that the bright weather would abate the disease, he replied: -'Mitigate nothing! Do you suppose that a full moon, Good Friday and Easter all foiling within a week will not bring a storm that will set all calculations on their beam ends?" Mr. Moran was right, and the Easter storm came on time. No Diminution of the Disease. Its effect was felt yesterday; not in sn in crease in cabes, but in the fact that the ex pected diminution was not felt. It is thought tbe weather will improve to-day and tbe disease with it, so far as tbose are concerned who take good care of themselves. Doctors all tell tbe same story, and some people say too much prominence is given the matter and attribute some deaths to blueness occasioned by the public dwelling on the matter. The remedies used are the same as Irom the first, except among tbose non-professional patients who treat them selves and diet on everything from thin gruel to whisky E'jneb. Victims of th? malady in all stages re ported by name yesterday were: Mrs. Dr. Ramsey, oFSixtb avenue, who had just gotten over a severe attack of pleurisy. Mrs. Ilamsey, however, was not regarded as dan gerously ill; J. D. "Watson, attornev, corner of Ninth street and Penn avenue, is conva lescing slowly; C E. Miller, late of the ,l)uquesne Hotel; Alderman S. P. Kerr, of Lawrenceville; Miss Lizzie Conway, of the McCarthy's Mishaps Company; all the doctors in Sbarpsburg, and Drs. Mc intosh and Robinson are in bed; Some Others on the TJst. Councilman "W. "W. Xesbitt, Tenth ward, Allegheny, is recovering; F. C. Goodwyn, of the Katatorium, has it; also Mr. Lip man, of the Household Credit Company; Mr. Solomon, of Gnsky's store; H. Gilles pie, of H. C. Frick &Co.; John B. Lutz, of Carson street, dangerously so; John C. Har mon, Soutbside; "William McAlister. South Eighth street; Second "Vice Presiden: of the Pennsylvania Company; William B. Kirker, of the Protbnnotary's office, Belle vue; Dr. Catbcart, East End; Dr. Chess rown, of Fifth nvenue; J. A. Miller, Col lins avenue; E. J. Edwards, Try street; Mr. Duff, East End Postmaster; Mrs. lilanck, of Sylvan avenue, Thirty-6rst ward. Un dertaker Devore was forced to take a rest. The machine shops of Jones & Langhlin are short 35 machinists and some pud dlers and rollers. Tbe Republican Iron works' puddling force is 23 short. Tbe Soutbside Laundry Company missed 23 of its girls yesterday. The Baltimore and Ohio Railway Company was running with a very small clerical force. Tbe Continental Tube Works Company could not man all its furnaces. At the Monongahela House 23 guests had sent for doctors. There is considerable of the disease in the country, buttherj tbe victim are lying in bed and drinking hot teas, as a rule, and seem to be getting along quite well, though some send lor doctors. One of the handsomest specimens of job printing turned out in tbis city for a long time is tbe catalogue of F. G. Craighead, the well-known china and glassware dealer of Smithfield street, which has just been issued from the presses of Percy F. Smith. The catalogue is devoted exclusively to bar glassware and is profusely illustrated. It is printed on heavy enameled paper, and the typography and press work are gems in their way. If you have job or book work of any kind to do, you cau't find a better place to take it than to Mr. Smith's establishment, S3 and 55 Virgin allev, Pittsburg. Easter Novelties and Greetings.
