Receipts from Ohio Needy & Smith 125 head": Sanford A .Langdon, SS; total, 163; last weet,292; previous-week, 33d. An old-time Herrs Island drover said this afternoon: "I do not expect to come out more than even on my live stock deals this week. Prices at Chicago were 10c higher on my last purchases than on the pre vious ones, and I could get no bettei prices than last week. It is a poor time for the drover's trade in this section." Woods' Run and Entt Liberty There were 175 bead of cattle on the Wood's Run market, 151 of which were from Chicago, the balance from Ohio. Markets were rather tlo-, with the situation In buyer's favor. Chi cago beeves ranged in price from 4 25 to $5 10 Ohio cattle from U 25 to Si 85. The best on the market weighed 1,350 as. All were sold, but margins of profit must have been very small, if. Indeed, there was anv margin, as prices paid at Chicago were a shade better than last week, and no better here. There were 420 sheep and lambs on the marker. Sheep sold from S5to5 60. yearlings from 5 to 6c, spring lambs from 5 to 7c. There were no hogs on the market and will not be until the middle of September, when butchers begin tn slaughter hogs. At East Liberty there were 150 loads of cattle on the market at East Liberty yards against 100 last Monuay and 72 the previous Monday. The great bulk of the offerings were common and inferior grades. Tidy, light butcher beeves and heavy primes were scarce, butsuffered some from the depres sion caused by the large run of light and hewy coarse cattle. The attendance of buyers was good, but tbey were disposed to make the most of their advantage from the heavy run. Jit the opening of markets a concession of 25c per cwt. from last week's prices was demanded by the buyer, and it looked as though this conces sion might be made on some inferior grades. By reference to last Monday's report it will be seen that prices then dropped 5o to 15c be low prices of two weeks ago. Markets to-day were slow at a similar decline. Tidy butcher beeves eighing L100 to 1,200 lbs. suffered least from the decline because of rhMr git-.,.-,. There were a few loads or 1,350 to 1,400-lb. beeves on the market from Ohio which were close to prime. The highest pne- reported for exporters and shippers was $4 40. The range for butcher cattle Vai S3 09 to Si 00 per cwt. Features of the Market. There is little doubt that fully one-third of the cattle on the local market this morning will necessarily be shipped East in first hands. Our local trade calls for about 75 loads, and when double this number are on the market, as was the case to-day. It is easy to predict the outcome. There were la loads of sheep and lambs In the East Liberty yards this morning, and markets opened heavy at a decline of 15 to 25c from last Monday's prices. There were two loads of very cood Washington county sheep weighing 85 as on the average, which were sold at 6 35. The same would have brought JJ 50 a week ago. Some Missouri sheep weighing 92 lis were sold at S4 90, and 66 head of spring lambs from the same source ere sold at5c. The outside "price for Iambs this morning as 6c per a. Unfavorable news from Eastern ' markets had a depres-ing influence on trade here. The number of pigs on sale was 2S loads, and market opened up slow at $3 90 to ti 00 as the range of prices. The Usual Opening Dullness In Wall Street With Brighter Ontlook for the Week Railroad and Government Bonds Dnll and Weak. Nbw"Xoek. July 21. The opening of the new week in the stock market, while possibly not so thoroughly stagnant as the last two days of last week, still showed no relief from the dullness and oppressive stagnation in prices which have ruled now for so long. The habit ues of the street as a rule are all at sea as to the probable course o? the market in the near future, and few expressions of opinion are to be heard, all Deemingljr afraid to do anything, and all awaiting developments on one side or the other. The railroad sltnation is about in the same condition that It was a week ago, but the action of the Secretary of the Treasury in inviting offers of bonds on a more liberal scale indicates a desire to speedily stop the accumu lation of money In the Treasury which has been going on at a fasten rate than usual for some time past There was a diversity of opinion on the bank statement of Saturday and it seemed to he a surprise all around as there were those who had expected a marked increase in the surplus reserve, but a much larger number had expect ed that the outg.. of gold would not be balanced by the receipts from the interior, and were looking for a material loss. The actual result in all probability had much to do with the firmer tone to the market exhibited to-day, though as usual all the movements worthy of notice were confined to a few stocks most of which were affected by circumstances peculiar to themselves. The easier feeling in London was reflected in higher prices from that center this morning and our market responded with advance over Saturday's final figures of from ya to per cent. Sugar refineries?" was again the most marked feature of the dav'e operation. but it was neat again In the forenoon, losing lper cent and settling down to 73. The loss was afterward recovered, however, though it closed at a little below the opening price. There was something like an attempt to reach stop orders which met with some degree of suc cess, but support was forthcomicg at the lowest points. In the regular list, Lackawanna was the strong feature with some specialties like blocking vauey ana some otners, nut AtchiBon and C. C, 0. & St. L. were weak and the latter after selling ex-rights fell away 1 per cent,1 and closed near the lowest Atchison was at tacked in the last hour and dropped 1 per cent The close was dull but firm generally at some thing better than the opening prices. Atchison Is down 1 per cent but all the other changes are for fractional amounts only with a majority of advances. Railroad bonds were very quiet though there was a fair business transacted in the forenoon. The usual stagnation in prices, however, was shown with rather a heavy tone, but no im portant changes occurred in the active bonds. Government bonds have been dnll and firmer. State bonds have been dull and featureless. The Post says; One ot the most significant features of the market was, notwithstanding its extreme dullness, prices were higher in re sponse to the slight Improvement in London, where money was 1 per cent lower to-day than last week. The South American financial troubles, which have been the chief cause of the stagnation of speculation in London, show no improvement yet, but the apprehonsions that they would cause serious financial embar rassment in London seem to have abated. London is now the most important factor In the New York stock market The situation in the country is favorable to higher prices for stocks. The latest reports from Chicago indicate that the railroad managers in session there are really tryiug to come to an agreement to ad vanceirates; indicates the probability of better earnings for the railroads and an increased suupIy"of floatiug capital stock investment It ouly requires that London should bncome a buyer of stocks to give the whole market a considerable advance.
