The British schooner George Noble, at Syd
ney, 2. S. W, from the Gilbert group of isl
ands, reports that the American schooner Tur
don was capsized during a gale and foundered.
Her crew are on the Bntirara Island.
Michael Claus has been arrested on a war
rant sworn tn by Deputy United States Col
lector H. G. Getchell, of St. Joseph, Ho.,
charged with having stolen So, 000 worth of rev
enue stamps from the office of the deputy col
lector in March, ISS9.
Repeated attempts to burn the little town
of Merceltine, Mo , bare been made during the
past week. The first time caused the loss of
seven jf the best buildings in the place. The
bla ::ened body of a corpse was found in the
ruins. Several more buildings were burned on
Thursday.
While waiting on a sidetrack at Marengo,
Wis., a passenger car was run into by a runa
"way fiat car loaded with logs. (The passenger
was wrecked, and at once took fire from the
lamps. Aftera half hour's hard work the pas
sengers were rescued. Several of them receiv
ing slight injuries.
At Baltimore James Tasker. Ed Woodfork
and Norman Wooster, three of the Navassa
rioters, pleaded guilty to manslaughter. This
disposes ot the whole batch, with the following
result: Three are convicted of murder in the
first degree, 14 of manslaughter and 23 of riot.
All will be sentenced next week. The whole
business, tt is expected, will go to the United
States Supreme Court, the question being
' railed of the jurisdiction of the United States
over the Island of Navassa.
Charged With Perjury.

Scoitdale, February 15. A man named
"Wilson, of Connellsville, and & deputized
officer of Constable Caldwell was arrested
to-day on charges of perjury, preferred by
H. J. Byrne, ex-Master Workman of D.
A. No. 11, Knights of Labor.
Wilson had Byrne arrested some weeks
ago for aiding James Toomey to escape.
Byrne was not the right man, hence the
suit.

days are growing short, to-morrow being his
last Sunday on earth. He sleeps late and
eats heartily and does not appear in the
least -nervous; in fact, he wishes he could
hang at once and not hare to wait so long.
He appears penitent and reads the Bible
considerably.
