OBITUAR MOSE JOHNSTON Death came suddenly to Mose Johnston, a prominent Democrat of Philipsburg, Saturday night, June 24, 1944 at 10:35 o'clock at the Philips- burg State Hospital as the result of & cerebral hemorrhage. He became fli that morning and was taken to the hospital in the afternoon. Mr Johnston was born in Old Philadel- phia, North Wales, on May 3, 1875,| nd came to this country at the age] of six years with his parents, Alfred dnd Mary Westmoreland Johnston They settled in Philipsburg. On Sep- tember 4, 1893, Mr. Johnston mur- ried Mary Ellen Lamb, and they began housekeeping in Philipsburg Mrs. Johnston preceded her husband in death twelve years ago on No vember 22nd last. The following children survive: Alfred and Thom- as, of Philipsburg; Esther who re- sided with her father on Seventh street; Violet, wife of Frank Brum- baugh; Pvt. Irvin (Mose) Johnston of Camp Crowder, Missouri. Bro- thers and sisters surviving aie George, of Philipsburg; Alfred, of Harrisburg: willlam, Thomas, Dor- sey and Joseph Johnston, Mrs. Wil- Ham Rapsey, Mrs. Jack Voyce both of Philipsburg; Mrs. John Condon! of Ohio; Misses Geraldine and Ruth Johnston, at home. Mr. Johnston followed the coal business until his retirement several years ago. He was 4 member of St. Paul's Episcopal church and a charter member of the Philipsburg chapter, Loyal Order of Moose. He was assessor for Third Ward. He was a lifelong and staunch member of the Democratic party Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul's Episcopal church in charge of the Rev. Mrs Win. ton, who had been bedfast there most of that time, was the widow of Harry Winton, former Bellefonte coal dealer and railroad conductor She was in her early 70's. Born at the Forge near Bellefonte, she was a daughter of Willlam and Sarah Savior. One son, Willlam, of Belle- fonte; two grandchildren, and these brothers and sisters survive: Lyfin of Prossertown; Mrs. Della Carter of Tampa, Fla Robert, of near Canton, Ohio; Mrs. Michael Rafetto and Mrs. Gust Beezer, both of Punxsutawney, and Mrs. Blanche Rishel, of Endicott, N. Y. Funeral services were held at the Widdow- son funeral home Monday alter noon, with interment in Union cemetery, Bellefonte LAWRENCE M. CONAWAY Lawrence M. Conaway, retired section foreman of Karthaus, fath- er of Mrs, W., W. Confer of Howrd, dropped dead Monday, June 26, 1944, while at his work as a time hap on a coal stripping job at New Gar den, West Keating township Clin- ton county. Mr. Conaway died of angina pectoris while walking in the woods with Ira Viehdorfer of Snow Shoe. He was 62.
