Why even mention Mus- solini? Senator Davis justly enjovs the confidence of Labor. He served with distinction as Secretary of Labor in the cabinets of three Presidents of the United States. No other man, Republican of Democrat, can match this record. It is a bril- liant tribute to him Senator Davis was nominated and elected to the United States Senate over the opposition of the wealth and power of the capitalistic interests He has served there with distinction. He has been progressive. He has kept step with the times He is the type of United States Senator who stands squarely on his own feet. He cannot be bossed or bullied or stampeded against his own Judgment as to what is right and best for the American people. Where he has believed the present national administration to be right, he has courageously supported it. Where he has believed it to be wrong, he has just as courag- ecously opposed it. More power to him for his consistency and independence. Would that there were more like him at Washington We are not “out of the woods” as yet with our jocal Republican ticket. It is folly—sheer folly—to nominate candidates who stand a doubtful show of being elected just so that a few persons may continue to hold control of the machinery of a political organization. Already there are some rumblings of unhappiness in our Party in Centre County following the Primaries. We may need all the support possible to be had at the general elec- tion. The strength that Senator Davis as the candidate for Governor would contribute might well be the necessary leverage to elect our whole Republican ticket. This is a 'hought worth any person's consideration Can: ivately, namely, admit pr The foregoing summarizes my voluntary expres- sion of opinion. for whatever my opinion may be worth. This statement of my views has not been solicited or even suggested by Senator Davis or his Centre County representatives, or by anybody cise. In fact, they will not know until they may read this that I prepared such a statement. This advertisement is being paid for from my person- al funds. Every Republican has a right to his opinion, and the right to ex- press it. The time to express it is before the Primaries, and then abide by the Primaries. For the reasons stated, I believe Senator Davis is the stronger man for Republicans to nominate for Governor. If I believed otherwise T would be Just as frank in saying so.
