November 9, 1939, ——— BHS Wins From Osceola Coal Renovo, 26 to 0 Operator Dies Both Ground and Air Attacks Net Big Gains For Red and White Thomas Dugan, Sr., Was Pi- oneer Operator in Moshan- non District Thomas Dugan, Sr, pioneer coal operator shannon district, died Monday af- ternoon at his home In Osceola Mills, He had been bedfast the past three months Mr. Dugan was affliated with the coal business in Central Pennsyl- vania his entire life. He worked his way up to a mine foremanship and then became an operator In the early days of coal mining in that section when the Moshannon Valley ruled the bituminous coal industry, Mr, Dugan and Patrick Gallagher of Osceola Mills purchas- ed and ated the Powelton mine near Sandy Ridge. The Powelton operation was one of the first mines to be opened in that entire area He was also owner of the Leskie and Beacon mines and was a CO- owner of the Moshannon No, 10 mine. He was instrumental in the development of the DuShan Mining Co., which is still in operation in the Osceola district Mr. Dugan w born in Leeds England. and came to America when ne was four Years old Surviving him are the children: John James and Aloy- fous, all of Osceola Mills; Desmond of Erie: the Rev.
