Paul street Bellefonte, passed away at the Cen- County Hospital Saturday night after a several week ilinees withh a complication of diseases Mr Motthews, who ad suffered from asthma for a number of years entered the hospital Monday of last week. She was aged about 65 yéars and was born in Lowden county, Virginia. When she was ga child she was brought to Bellefonte to make her home with her grandparents the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Stew- irt, former well known colored res- idents of this community In 1901 he was united in marriage with James Matthews, who survives with these children Philip and Alfred Matthews, of New York City: Ber. tha, of Biate College, and a grand- daughter, Virginia, at home. Mrs Matthews was an active member of the local A. M. E. church, was a member of the Stewardess Board of the Benjamin Wheeler Society, and the Mite Missionary Society of the church. Funeral services were held from the church here on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Mr. Brown, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. 8B. M. Cooper, of Milton, for- merly of Bellefonte, in charge.
