Lonebarger, of Centre privileged character last week--he Hall, nearly a year ago are dead. The third was ill but was recovering We regrot to learn that the health of Col. W., R. Teller, proprietor of the Bush House, has lately become $0 much impaired that he has been compelled to take a trip to Cuba The gentleman Jeft on New Year's day, accompanied by his wife Peristein’s store, in the Bush Ar- cade, closed last Friday on account of financial embarrassment. An assignment was made by Mr. Pearl- stein in favor of George T. Balley, of Philadelphia, and other creditors and it is expected that the stock will be sufficient to satisfy all claims Centre Hall counts seventeen wid- ows all well fixed and good looking The aggregate wealth of these ladies | will equal, if not exceed, that of a like nunber af male citizens, are so contented with their situa- tion that they dont’ care to make any other fellow happy. Daniel Garman is an admirer of fine horse Mesh and knows a good animal when he sees one. At the sale of Thomas Reynolds, deceased, he purchased a team of blacks which are considered the finest span cf drivers in this section. The price pald was between four and five hundred dollars, but it would take double that amount to buy them now. Prof. P. H, Meyer, the popular mu- &i¢ Instructor, was pown Satur- day. He reports the Linden Hall convention a great success. This week he will have a class at Lamar, Clinton County, and the following n in week at Zion, this county....Harry| 4 Bush, who gpent the past four months attending the University of Pennsylvania Law School, 3 home He has been troubled of late with poor eyesight and may not be able to resume his studies for some time. There seems to be an epidemic in this section to chance off something or other; almost every other fellow you meet has an old rig-boned, gpavined horse or a worthless runt to a pony that he can't drive and wants to get rid of and asks you to “take 3 chance” on it. If it ain“ a horse it is likely to be an old porker | not fit to eat. This business is a nui- sance and a bore. It is what might be called respectable gambling, for what is the difference in drawing the winning number on a horse or get- ting a “Royal Flush” hand in poker The only difference is that one is tcierated in public while the other not, On last Friday evening a number of the young gentlemen of Belle- fonte, prominent leaders in the social circles of town, gave an assembly hop at the Bush House to their lady and gentieman friends. Tn response to invitations a large number of young folks from Lock Haven, Phil- ipsburg, Tyrone and other cities ar- rived on Priday and were royally en- tertained. Stopper and Fisk's or- chestra, of Willamsport, furnished the music, and the dance was held in (he spacious dining room. Among those who attended mere: Mr. and Mrs. J. N. At one lime seven members of his family were down with the dread disease, and Arthur, a son, aged about 5 years, died. Nancy, wife af John Neyman, and their daughter, Hannah, also (died from the same disease, It is reported that another jovesick youth distinguished himself at Miles- burg last week. This time it was a young jeweler of Bellefonte who was smitten by the bewitching eyes of a Milesburg maiden, and then got the bounce. I: is said that in his disappointment he drew a revolver and flourished quite freely, de- manding that she promise him to {love none other. We are glad to say that the young man is still among the living and the loving and is looking around for new fiekds of con~ quest. On last Tuesday afternoon as Rev | W. E. Fischer and Dr. Charles Emer tick, both of Celrtre Hall, were driv- ing along the pike near the station at that place they had quite an ac- cident. They were passing Mr, Lee's farm house when two large dogs came running out toward the horsz and one of them bit the animal on the hind leg. The horse wag a young one and became excited and began to run and came near to up- setting the occupants into a plie of prop timber. The horse then turned for Bartholomew's store where it collided with a team and the buggy was badly smashed Dr. Emerick jumped from the buggy and caught the horse before he got away the Ab h a arm and injured knee.
