Misses $50 Reward

sioner Victor Brungurt of Rebers-
burg, missed by inches being $50
richer week before last when he
gave a ride to a hitch-hiker who he
afterward learned was a fugitive
from Rockview penitantiary
Mr. Brungart was motoring along
the Penns Valley road when he
picked up a hitch-hiker who he be-
lieved he recognized as a resident
of that area. He learned that the
man was not a Centre countian and
his peculiar actions led Mr. Brun-
gart to be suspicious of him but he
had no idea he was aiding Clarence
E. Smith to make his way to free-
dom from Rockview.

that his passenger asked where he
could find work as a garage me-
chanic. but that when he offered
tu try to get him a job. the stranger
lost all Interest. Finally Mr. Brun-
gart dropped his guest at a road in-
tersection and was glad to be rid
of him. Later he learned that had
he turned the man over to any
police authorities he would have re-
ceived 8 350 reward posted for
Smith's capture. Several days after
Mr. Brungart’s experience, Smith
surrendered himsell to police at
his home in Erie

Sudlow May Resign
As Rector of Church
The Rev. Robert J. Sudlow, rec-
tor of St. John's Episcopal church,
Bellefonte, Sunday announced to
his congregation that because of
{ii health he is consiiering resign-
ing bis pastorate here in the near
future
The Rev, Mr. Sudiow has been
undergoing treatment in Washing-
ton, D. C for some time and last
week was told by physicians that
he can expect no permanent cure
as long as he remains in this cli-
mate. It 1s reported that he will go
to Arizona where church officials
are now trying to locate a position
for him

Beaver is Paying
Spring Visit to
Borough Stream
Bellefonte's wildlife population
was increased yesterday with the
arrival of a beaver, which may have
come to this borough for the pur-
pose of having a family
The beaver was spotted by George
Eberhart. who was walking along
the tall race from the Gamble Mill
when he saw the rodent sunning
ftself on the bank. As Mr. Eberhart
trew near the beaver plunged into
the stream and remained hidden
until Mr. Eberhart drew out of
sight, when It again came out on
the bank

be the same one he saw yesterday

The first step taken by the School
Board in oonsidering a building
program was to engage the services
