What Women Are Doing. Mrs. Joseph Linden Smith is the sec- retary and moving spirit ln a handful of Bostonians who about a year ago bracelet 1s a fad which of being admirably mediate families. Thelr plan was very simple, comsisting only in buying ducers. Immediately after their return to town in the fall of 1011 the promot ers of the scheme met at one of the homes and a systematic plan was work ed out. The first step was to offer to the farmers in a New Hampshire neighbor hood where one of the promoters had a summer home a flat price for all thelr dairy, ing the winter farmers accepted the offer. At first all shipments of supplies were received by one of the thirty members of the co operative club; then gradually as things | after the theater | tatled | bullder to represent the movements of | solution | day the colt { KO up | ter.” banded together for the purpose of re | ducing the cost of living for thelr Im- in! quantities and directly from the pro- | impri poultry and farm products dur- | This price being some | srhat in advance of current prices, the owr f The Eiectric Motion Signs. The junior member of a big electri eal sign construction company was walking along Broadway with a friend He nodded his head toward one of the blazing advertise ing displays in which a horse appears on the gallop “Has it ever occurred to you how de- must be the work of the sign ving beings in bulbs and make them artistically realistic? far afield sometimes to obtain the life like effect. That horse, plants his hoofs just as in real otherwise that sign would be an ani mated cartoon. Now, to get the ind! vidual or disjointed movements of the legs In thelr order of sequence the builder minded that the eye of the camera is keener than man's, procured the motion picture film of a galloping horse and examining each snapshot, drew his plans in duplicate. Flashing his bulbs on and off with the same speed amployed by a movie operator, the designer has produced the effect of smooth and continuous motion." Gearhart Says He Has Discov- ered a New Calendar of Time. A. C. Gearhart, who formerly lived near Philipsburg, while in that town recently, made a visit to the Journal office, and during the course of con- versation he advised them that after five years of unceasing effort in a special study of the Planetary system he is now able to present to the world of time, dispensing with the short 28 day month, leap years, ete. Mr. Gearhart stated that all changes of the Planetry system oc- cur at midnight, The beginning of the new day, new week, new month and new vear, also new moon, first quarter, full moon and last quarter, all occur at midnight. He has dis- covered that the moon's time is pre- cisely the same as that of the earth in her circuits, each traveling 1000 miles per hour, 2400 miles per day, or 8.736000 miles per year. The earth's body being round or circular, the sun produces precisely the same number of days in each month in her Journey north as In each month In her return journey south thus pro- ducing 30 days in February the same as in November, as the earth's body is the one and same at this point and the same conditions prevail through- out the entire course north and south. The Delight of Soap Bowls. The soap bowls have become almost as much of a necessity here as in dear old England, where they originated, for §t is sald that “dampness, soap and salts” are responsible for the beautiful complexion of the English women. There are, however, soap bowls and soap bowls. In some of them the soap fs only of a mediocre quality; In others it is of the best. In the latter class there is a soap bow! containing a soap which has won great favor with fas tidlous women.
