1903. CORRESPONDENTS’ DEPARTMENT Happenings of a Week Over Cen- | tre County THE PEOPLE'S POPULAR PAGE | What Has Transpired in the Various | Localities—Compiled by a Corps of Alert and Able Writers—Is Your Section Rpresented ? High Valley. Saturday, rain from the south, A. S. bagged two pheasants on Friday ; A. §, you must do better or Andy Vouada will take the lead as I was told he bagged three and a red squirrel. Jack Elmer, who was laid up all sum mer, was seen at Coburn last week. A blessing for Jack, and all his neighbors are glad to see that Jack is on the way of recovering. Mr. Lee said it is lonesome to be with- out help, and will look around and see what a marriage license will cost. John Weaver said his corn that he farmed on the John Bowersox fields, near the tunnel, the one third is carried away by some miscreant ; he said he judged who the miscreant is ; this is a shame as Mr. Weaver is an honest, hard working, industrous man, and would not do harm to any one ; the people should stand by Mr. Weayer and have the rascal brought to justice. The Fiedler scribe thinks he is on top since he bas an airbrake at his flowing well ; all he needs now is a gum pump and skunktail lever, then the lovely sweet pea will hold the pressure in check. Hello, Mt, Hill scribe, the Georgetown scribe is not dead he is still among the living, but is at present in the dark on account of figuring which crop will be the largest, corn or baby; it will not take a big baby crop to beat the High valley cornu crop. Danie! Crader said he saw good corn, but said Dame Lose beats all records ; the ears are so large that be is compelled to use canthook and skit to roll them on the wagon, and has to take the roof off the crib and have a horse with rope and tackle to unload it in the crib ; then he is to use a crosscut saw to cut it in such length that he can take out for the hogs. Mr. Martin said High valley takes the lead ; they have a creamery and they send the skimming over at this place and will not take up with such a contract : now Mr. Martin, only wait, next year you take the creamery and we take the skimming, that is a fair show, Very little about the elections ; is there no candidate in the field? if not, let us know it; if not, we all go for Levi Spigelmyer. Charley, if you wish to have a pleas ant meal, call on J. T. Eisenhuth, G. B. Shaver and Thomas Evert, as they have lots and gobs, and would like to accom. modate their friends—also Andy Vonada. The High valley scribe was sorry to see in the Democrat that Sheriff Taylor was laid up, but hope he will be allright till when the next Democrat comes to hand. The east end Lumber Co. is overstocked with tooth pick orders and Barnet said there is more money in logging, if one can get the timber for nothing, than in anything else. A rumor, but I am not able to give it correctly, but we believe that those that made money picking berries will apply for a charter, 50 no one will have a right to sell berries, only those that hold the charter. I wonder what has become of the Blue Rock scribe ? Now let us hear from you. I say it is foolish to set a mill where there is no timber ; three more men are needed, one to bolt, one to pack lath, one to count odds and ends—pay every two weeks and between, if tobacco is needed; for information call on the High valley scribe, Gas Peak.
