Port Matilda at present presents the appearance of a lumbering town as the roads leading from the different lumber camps operated by our citizens, are almost constantly filled with teams lad. ened with coal bank props, logs, railroad ties and paper wood, most of which is shipped to different points. The logs are sawed into first class lumber at Chaney & Thompson's steam saw mill in this place. Miss Susan Shelly, the elocutionist, who honored Snow Shoe last winter by her efforts here as music teacher and in giving lessons ou elocution, has gained wide notoriety by her novel manner of gathering material for a book which she intends to write on Hoboism (if this word can’t be found in the dictionary, heroism might be used in the same sense.) It is thought some one of Miss Shelly 's elocu- tionary class here will be given this ter- ritory to canvass. Hverybody will want this new work on girl Hoboism. A monkey can live in almost any clime; give him an overcoat and he will play hide and seek around the north pole. Yet it might be putting it a little too far to say a monk could exist with any degree of comfort at Runville. Between the girls and the sprucy roosters, life might be unbearably hot for the monk, even if he were a mediate. They can be taught to take trips on a train easier than to climb a telephone pole, but if you can keep one up a telephone pole enough coal might be fired at him when trains are passing to keep you in coal all winter, provided | the pole stands near your coal house.
