Paris, April 27. — William Astor, senior member of the house of Astor in America, and grandsan of the original John Jacob Astor, died at the Hotal Liverpool, aged 61. The cause of his death, according to one report, was heart failure, while another secount says it was caused by conjestion of the lungs. Mr. Astor was the father of Mrs, J. Coleman Drayton, and was greatly woe- ried over the Borrowe-Fox-Milbank scan- dal in which she was invol ved. Next to his nephew, Willian Waldorf Astor sand probably Jay Gould, William Astor was the richest citizen of America. His wealth was recently estimated at $60,000,000, the greater part of which is | | stantaneous. invested in New York real estate. Mr. Enloe Attempts to Strike Pension Commissioner Raum. WasminGTON, April 27.— “You are a Har!” said Representative Enloe after Commissioner Raum had denied stating to Mr. Enloe something that Mr. Enloe insisted the commissioner had said to him, daring the proceedings of the pen sion committee, and with the utterance of these words he sprang towards the commissioner, who was seated just across the table, to do Mr. Raum violence. Mr. Enloe had moved a few feet be fore the other members of the committee and Mr. Cooper, who were seated around and between Mr. Enloe and the commis sioner, could spring to their feet, seize the Tennessee representative and pre vent blows being exchanged, Commis sioner Ranm having hastily Jot on his | feet and prepared for an attac The members forcibly restrained Mr, Enloe and there was a scene of disorder, Mr. Enloe endeavoring to break away Commissioner Raum was excited, and exclaimed that he wanted no personal difficulty, but feared no man, which caused a remewel of Mr. Enloe’s attempt toget at him. The commissioner in a moment picked up his hat and left the room, while his colleagues finally suc ceeded in partly calming the prosecutor and getting him to take his seat, After some brief expressions of regret and explanation the committee, as the best way out of the affair, took a hasty adjournment. No actual blows were struck. Burglar Parnell's Heavy Sentence, PriLaperriia, April 27. Charles El Liott Purnell, the colored burglar, whose recent arrest created a sensation becanse of the numerous burglaries which he was alleged to have committed in this and neighboring counties, was yests rday arraigned before Judge Finletter in quarter sessions court No. 2. He pleaded guilty to five burglaries, one of which was at the residence of Miss Louisa De Bonneville, 320 South Sixteenth street of which John Muss, colored, was re cently acquitted, a Judge Finletter imposed a sentence of forty years in the Eastern penitenti: wl An Electric Trust, New York, April 27. -An electrie trust, having for its object the contrel of the trolley overhead wire railway sys tems, the electric lighting system, and in fact the general electric business of the country, has been formed by the con. solidation of the Edison, Thomson-Hous ton and Fort Wasne companies.
