Captain Michael Runkle died sudden ly Friday night at his residence on Bishop street, The Captain was well Known in Bellefonte and was a gallant soldier in the late war, having been wounded several times—losing an arm at Spottsylvania, He wis born in Penns Valley in 1831, but has been a resident of Bellefonte for a number of years. His wife died some time ago, Three chil. dren survive him, He was a member of Gregg Post and was buried Tuesday, the Post Rtending the funeral in a body, Captain Runkle was a man of great kindliness of heart, vet very strong in his opinions. He had hosts of friends in this place and the writer has many pleasant recollections of the gallant sol- dier when he was plain ** Mike ” Ruskle, Our boyish recollections of his kindness, his free and easy manners and pleasant ways are still fresh. Since the war Mr, Runkle's health has not been the most robust, caused doubtless by his wonnds and the loss of hisarm. He was a brave soldier, a good citizen and a Kind parent and a warm friend. The funeral was largely attended.
