Jict was rendered by the jury at the Hatch Inquest: We, the coroner's jury selected to ascertain the cause of death of Mr. N. W. T. Hatch, having | carefully reviewed the facts in the case and the | evidence brought forward, have come to the ananimous conclusion that the sald Mr. N. W. T. Hatch, who was found dead in the rear yard of | No. 104 West Twentieth street, in this city, on the moraing of May 8, 1888, met his death by accel | dentally falling or jumplog from the rear exten. slon of sald premises, impelled through his fear of exposure or violence, having been enticed to fhe sald promises by David C. Forrts and Mrs. L, E. Scofield. Coroner Tavy held Mr. Ferris and Mrs Beofleld for the grand jury and continued the $5,000 bail asked in the case of Ferris, | and canceled the bail bond of 82.500 far nished for Mrs, Beofield by Mr. Ferris, ask- ing for new bail in the same amount. Both parties will be committed to the house of detention if bail is not furnished. Scofleld was discharged from custody. New Signal Service Convenience, Wasminaron, May 17.—The signal service is about to introduce in the principal cities self-registering thermometers. These ther | mometers will be connected by means of eleo- | tricity with a dial that will be conspicuously posted on the outside of the weather build | ings, and will record the temperature at the top of the building as indicated by the signal | service thermometers. The dials will be use- ful and of great convenience to the public, who will thus have a ready means of knowing | the official temperature without climbing to | the tops of the high buildings where the offices are usually placed.
