Dr Rauch, of the fu rians present yesterday from [ilinois Michigan and Wisconsin, The Gog ernor made a personal inspection of the premises of the Phenix Distillery sheds where the animals were slaugh. tered before his eyes and the diseased lungs examined. The prospects now are that the Commision will order all cattle in the sheds slaughtered snd the stables burned to the ground There is little doubt but that the Goy. will advise this. Other States are preparing to quarantine ag ainst Illi. nois cattle if this is not done. During the discussion it was de veloped that should 3,000 cattle now under quarantine be slaughtered and either cremated or sent to the render ing establishments, the expense would probably reach $100,000. An addi: tional $50,000 would be required to replace the sheds, if burned. To cov: er this outlay of $150,000 there is only available an appropriation of $49,000. Governor Oglesby stated that the sum in hand could be axhaust: ed nod that he felt confident the bal: ance could be depended on from the next Legislature. It was finally decided that all the cattle now quarantined in the Phonix and the Shalfeldt distilleries, number: ing two thousand head, should be slaughtered.
