A Clerk's Full Swing. HOW THB OOVERNMBNT PRINTING OFriCF UAS BEEN MANAGED FOB BOMB TIMB. From the Phllodrlphlo Timor WASUINOTON, October 6. —When the management of the Government Print ing Office it looked into, if it ever is, there will be some development* by the side of which the corruption in the Trea*ury Department will be nowhere. It will be found that one Child*, an ir responsible clerk, hai had full owing of an office running over a thousand em ployes; that tins man ha* controlled contract* and manipulated bids at his own pleasure, arid that Mr. Defrees has admitted himself powerless to inter fere. It will be found thut this power jjessness began about' die time that SIO,OOO were taken from the office sale in broad daylight, which amount was repaid by Congress and the loss never covered. There were several of the De frees faintly of fast young men about the office at the time, but the safe-rob ber* were never discovered, It will be found that Childs kept one of How gate's charmers on his office rolls, al though her character was well known to him and to every woman in the printing office. It will be found that Defrees has not rendered two months' service a year, but has quietly resided at Berkeley Springs, where the men in his employ were compelled to, at their own expense and loss of wages, to con sult him, and whence they were invari ably turned back to Cbilds. This fellow worked the office on double time one week and the next furlougbed half the force for want of* appropriations and otherwise showed his gross incapacity, while Defrees dare not remove him. A True Bill. GCITEAC INDICTED IN ELEVEN BINCTELY DRAWN COUNTS. WASHINGTON. October 9. —The indict ment Hgaiiiat Charles J. Guitenu f or the murder of Jame* A. Garfield, late Pres ident of the United Stale*, *u pre sented to the grand jury yesterday morning. Tlie indictment embrace* eleven count* and is drawn with great minuteness. Each count repeat* the charge that Ouileau, feloniously, wilful ly and of hi* malice aforethought, did kill and murder against the form of the statute in such case made and provid ed anil against the peace and govern ment of the United Stales. The varia tions are regarding the time and place of death and the court's jurisdiction, and are drawn o a* to cover every pos sible loophole through which the pris oner might escape. For instance, the only variation in the fifth count is a change in the order of mention of the places in which death is said to have occurred, the county of Washington and District of Columbia being put first. The sixth count recite* that the offence charged wa* committed in the Balti more and Potomac railroad depot, in the city of Washington, which building stand* and at the time stood on the ground belonging to and under the ex clusive jurisdiction of the United States. Ihe ninth count is varied by the introduction of the recital that the district in which the offence charged was committed constitutes a judicial circuit of the United Slates, and that the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, where the said Jauie* A. Garfield died, form part of a judicial circuit of the United State* consisting of the District 01 Columbia. In all other respect* this count is like the third. At 12:45 the grand jury entered the Criminal Court room and presented the indictment against (luileau indorsed "a true bill" and signed by Caleb Church man, foreman. A Physician's Suicide.
